Post Photo cutout question

I am using the extractions with dimension tutorial with Cassie Jones, everything has been easy to follow along with until I got to the extracting part. I have done it over and over to see if I missed a step or did something wrong. When I have the cut out selected with the magnetic lasso and I have the marching ants, I invert it, then hit delete and I get a message, "the smart thumbnail is uneditable" I have no idea what I did or how to fix it. Any ideas?

Are you using PSE 6 or 7? I don't have those versions but I think it has to do with how you are bringing your image or elements into the project. You're dragging from the project bin? Try just going to each element/photo and duplicating the layers into the project. Please forgive me if I am wrong ;-) From what I understand, items become smart objects somehow... and it's been giving people grief. But there is a workaround. I;m sure someone will respond soon!

I followed the link above and I right clicked on the photo in the project bin and clicked simplify layer and it worked with no problem. Thank you again, I am new to this and am very thankful for the tutorials and this website.

Absolutely! I provide an email address at the end of every tutorial. Don't hesitate to use it if you get stuck! I'm glad it's working for you now.

Glad to help! I'm sure that when I upgrade (eventually) that I will run into the same problem- because using the project bin is how I work! LOL
