I don't know about the acdSee editor. I've worked with it minimally, but I really didn't feel as if it had the same functions as PSE. I think you'll find more available to help you with PSE. Just my 2¢

Welcome to DD!

ACDSee has only limited editing functions (crop, rotate, resize, red-eye-reduction etc). My version (9) does not support layers at all, and that is critical! You need PSE.

I agree, I think PSE is the way to go.

You will definitely find more help available to you in the forums using PSE, not to mention the tutorials and classes both here and at other sites as well are all pretty much geared with PSE (or the full Photoshop) in mind. (BTW: Cassie's tutorials are amazing, they really really helped me!)

I have to retract my previous advice! Sorry! I looked up ACDSee Photo Editor 2008 and it does claim to have all the features you need. *very embarrassed face* After quite a bit of searching found this single tutorial for using templates: Using Templates in ACDSee Photo Editor. So although there is much more support around for scrapping in PSE, it seems it is possible in ACDSee.
Oscraps has a lot of information about ACDSee, so perhaps that's the place to ask.

Hi! I know this thread is from a while ago, but since I scrap with ACDSee Photo Editor 2008, I just wanted to let you all know that is is fantastic!
Like Esther said, it does use layers, they are called "Objects" and the Layer Palette is the "Object Palette."
But it basically works the same way. You open your paper, drag your photos and elements onto it, add your text and viola! A fab LO!

PE also has some really neat features like one click text on a path and journaling in a shape. You can use abr brushes, psd templates, blending mode. They have "filters" but they are called adjustments and you can get some pretty neat effects from them.

There are tutorials out there- I have some I have written on my blog:
The Musings of FaeryWings
There are also some at Welcome to DigiScrapInfo!

I post at Oscraps every day, so if you have any questions you can always post there as well!
