Question Texture tutorial?

This probably sounds dumb, but I see lots of great textures and patterns to download; I know how to load them into PS, but not sure how to use them? If I want to apply a texture or pattern to paper or photos, how do I do that? I'm using CS2. Thanks for any help!

Are you talking about things you've downloaded from the DesignerDigitals store? Those should come with instructions. Let me know which products and I'll help you out.

Thanks, Cassie. How can I tell which products come with textures? I "searched" using "texture" and didn't get anything; I'd be happy to buy a product if it will teach me to use textures (or patterns). I see all sorts of textures or patterns to download. Once they're loaded into PS, how do I apply a pattern or texture to say, a solid color background?

There are these great textures by Jesse, but they are used like you would use any png file to create a textured look. You would just position them over your color layer and adjust the blending mode.

To use the patterns that load into PS, just create a new layer above your color layer and then go to Edit > Fill > Pattern (in the "contents" drop down menu). Then adjust the blending mode. You can also add a Pattern fill layer. Just go to Layer > New Fill Layer > Pattern, and again . . . adjust the blending mode. Try different ones until you get an effect you like.
