I just got my 8x8 book in today and I cannot express how much I LOVE it!!!
My first two books were printed 12x12 and while I loved them, they always seemed a bit 'overkill' on the size. I decided to test the waters this time with 8x8 and I love it so much, that I'm going to watch for 2-for-1 sales and have my first two reprinted in 8x8. Is that insane, or what? All fonts used were no smaller than 14pt and I can read everything perfectly. I'm so excited tonight!!!

Whoo-hoo! I'm thinking of doing 8X8 for my next one for the same reasons. They do look beautiful though. Shutterfly does amazing quality.

Glad to hear you love your book. I'm a BIG FAN of 8x8, that's all I get. It's the perfect size for your hands.

WOW! 76 pages! You are going to be so happy when you see it. That is something worth waiting for. I wish I could physically hold other DD girls books. They look great online but I could just imagine how beautiful they are in person!

Oh gosh, now you have me all confused. I've printed two 8x8 books and I was going to go 12x12 for the family history book just because it's so much more special than anything else I've done. Youch. I don't know what to do now.
Off to look at your book. I know that feeling you get when you unwrap for the first time and see it in print, it gives you tingles, doesn't it?

Your album is awesome Tracy!
I have one 8X8 from shutterfly and love it. Waiting for the 12X12 to arrive...I'm thinking I will probably feel the same way as you. 12X12 seems like it might be too much!

As someone who loves the 12x12 books, I have to jump in here!
I have done 12x12 books for our Chicago Vacation and for my kids school year last year. Then I did an 8x8 for their horse camp album. I really love both and think they both have their place. I have decided to stick with the 12x12 for their summer albums (which should be delivered today - YAY!!) and for this school year that is coming because I tend to put 3-4 or more pictures per page and this way they are not all so small and I can fit other elements, etc. without everything being so small Also, I love the fact that I can sit down with my girls (one on each side) and we can look at the 12x12 books all together. I have found that the 8x8 is a little small to do that with - great for one person to look at - fits in the hand well - but awkward to share together. I will use the 8x8 for smaller books on special things (like horse camp or single event albums). I guess all that is to say that I think both albums have their place, it just depends what you are looking for!

I did our family history book 12 x 12 and everyone really loved it. One thing I might do differently is use a slightly smaller font size -nothing over 14 pt. I put the book together when I was fairly new at this and not really studied as to size etc. Also, I think the large size is good for older family members.

Okay that makes sense, every book has it's purpose, so I think I'll still do our family history book at 12x12, thanks for putting my mind at rest, I'm going to and fro over it so much.

Great thread! I'm still debating the size of my dd's first year album, you all have given me a lot to think about. I'm glad you pointed out the font size, Deanie, I had never given my font size much thought except not to make it too small... I probably have some pages right now with giant type if I made them 12x12!
The once thing everyone agrees on though is that Shutterfly is awesome -I can't wait to finish my first book in a few months! |

My 12x12 album just came yesterday afternoon! I love it! It is our Summer Memories (all 70 pages worth - it was a fun summer!) I am glad that I did the 12x12. In looking through the book I do see some places that I could improve upon when printing in the larger size, but overall I really love the book!
If I had one wish for Shutterfly it would be that they would offer a 10x10 size. While I like the 8x8 for some of my smaller albums with fewer pics, it is too small for my yearly (or seasonal as the case may be!) albums for my girls with the many pics I put on their pages. I really love the 12x12, but I think that 10x10 would be the perfect compromise and would fit on a bookshelf much better!

Oh funny you should say that Lisa, I was only thinking the other day after reading all these comments, that a 10x10 would be just a nice mix of the two.

The thing about the 12 x 12 is that is looks a little skinny if you only do the 20 pages, so maybe an 8 x8 would be better in that sense? I really love my 12 x12 though, the elements look so real. I did the same thing with the print, I guess you learn from experience, nothing over 14!
