Default I could use your help!

Ok Ladies, I need your help! I, along with 5 of my closest friends, am doing a 60 mile (over 3 days) breast cancer walk. I wanted to get t-shirts made as many of the walkers have t-shirts that are a little risque. Here is a sketch that a friend drew:

Our quote for the shirt is: "Fields of daisies, big and small, round and droopy, we walk for all!"
This is the best photo I have as the artist doesn't have a scanner. How would you suggest going about turning this sketch into a file that I can use to create a t-shirt transfer? Should I try and use DD images of girls and make my own instead? (That might hurt the artist feelings)

TIA!

PS I do NOT have a wacom.

just a guess, but could you take a high- quality picture, bring it into a new file in PS/PSE, use the magic wand to delete all the white portions. then you've got the sketch outline and can change it into any color (use a solid color or hue/saturation adjustment layer) and over any color t-shirt.

only thing i don't know is what kind of file you need for a t-shirt transfer.

I would do what Janice suggested. I've had success using the magic wand tool when scanning doodles/drawings like that.

I have no suggestions joey - except maybe it could be brought into an office max or staples type place for a scan and jpeg conversion...

love it - so cute!

Great idea for the t-shirts, that sketch is really cute!

I agree with Mary, that would be the simplest thing if your friend could do that. Even the UPS store would be able to make a copy of it and fax it to you...

Best of luck!

You have gotten great advice Joey!

I definitely would use this sketch . . . it is just too too cute to discard it. And, I think that you are right about it maybe hurting the artists feelings.

PS ... I thought everyone had a scanner these days!! LOL (just kidding)

Hi Joey, I just did a layout for a T-shirt also. I did a specific one a couple of days ago. I did a logo for a non-profit org. "Native Horizon" and I sent them a regular image (jpeg)thru email.
They sent the image to the printing compant to get prints on T-shirts. The print company asked me to have the resolution at least 300dpi and that a copy be made of the original into a PSD, EPS,PDF, Illustrator.
I guess the printer that does the printing on the Tshirts have to be able to manipulate the colors ( I used alot of different colors for the logo).
So I did, I just ended up sending them the file in a PDF and there was no problem.
A week ago I did one for a layout of family tshirt but that was a pain in the butt...lol. But I did learn what dpi and resolution and print stuff all mean now. So that wasnt a really bad experience at all.
I think the sketch will be a very cute tshirt. I wouldnt change it at all. I hope that help. cheryl

hi Joey,
I think it's a really cool shirt logo, and how cool that you're doing the walk!

Could you get the original sketch and scan it in yourself? Maybe she could mail it to you between cardboard pieces, or in a photo mailer envelope, so it doesn't get bent?

Or ask her to go to a Kinko's or other copy shop; THEY usually have scanners and for a minimal fee they can scan it for her into a high-res digital file.

Good luck!
Jennifer

You guys are awesome! Thanks so much for the ideas! The original sketch is gone so this is what I have to work with. I am going to ask a local friend/artist to re-sketch this for me adding legs and feet. I will scan it in as a 300 dpi jpeg and keep the image colorless.

Cheryl, where did you print your t-shirts at? I only need 6 of these, but I need them before Aug. 7. I thought about printing them off on tranfer paper myself, but I fear that will look way cheap.

I appreciate all the help here, ladies! Please keep your ideas coming!
TIA!

I think this is great! Do you really mean "droppy" or do you mean "droopy"?

Joey,
I would play about with the image you have got in photoshop to accentuate the B/w then pop it on to a channel. That way you could make a selection, change the colour easily and still retain the sketch quality. I've had a play about with the image you posted and coloured it in pinks as in the UK that is the colour for all breast cancer advertising etc. (same in the US?)
My big problem was how to post the image here...duh! Hope this works...Obviously you will have a much better end result!

Hi Joey, the first tshirts - Im not sure where they got it printed, I havent seen one yet.
The other logo that I made for the company was sent to a company in phoenix - "Snyder Promotional Products"
They are making I believe 500 shirts, and they said maybe some more in the following weeks, I wouldnt be able to tell you what the cost would be. Sorry about that. The Snyder Company are really good in helping you out also. Sorry if I wasnt that much of a help.

The sketch looks brilliant, I think these t shirts will be in great demand...maybe you should do some with 'team daisy supporters' on and sell them to add to your fundraising, I'm sure they will be really popular. Another thought is that if you are pushed for time then why don't you print out the design on the laser t shirt paper and just iron that on to white t shirts. We have used that quite a few times with the students and it would be ideal. Only problem is that I have only seen it A4 size, but I guess that could be big enough.
Good luck with everything, can't wait to see the LO's with 'team daisy'

I think it looks great!
I am currently designing t-shirts for the children's choirs that I play for, and we are using a company called Signaturesx (signaturesx.com) I think they require a .pdf file too but I'm not sure about the rest of it. They wanted me to do a bright colored design that would go on a black shirt, so I did a word art quote about singing.I hope it turns out!
you're doing the Chicago one? COOL!

Fiona, your ideas have been SO helpful! Since we were pushed for time we decided to do iron-on transfers for now and we are getting nicer shirts made for after the walk saying "60-miles, I did it! I'd do it again!" on the back of the shirt.

Janet, you need to post the choir shirts that you are doing so we can all see! Pleeeeeease!

Here is what our final shirts look like...I wonder if the perky daisies and skinny waist come with the shirt?!

Thanks again for everybody's thoughts and ideas and support. You all are AWESOME!

If anybody is in Chicago on Aug 10 (Sunday) come to Soldier Field around 3pm for closing ceremonies! I hear it is awesome!
