Default Sorry....

I just posted my first layout in the gallery. A 'scraplift' of Kayleighs layouts. I'm still learning digital scrapbooking and so I'm not at all confident yet. As I've just lifted Kayleigh's layouts there wasn't a whole lot of creativity on my part, but seeing the comments has given me the confidence to keep creating and posting I've been collecting digital supplies for a while but only just started creating layouts so the gallery has helped me learn an awful lot. Anyway, just wanted to thank those who commented.
ETA It has just been pointed out to me that a scraplift is generally not a direct copy of a layout. I wasn't aware of that and I really was only trying to learn the techniques and get comfortable with layout design. I thought I had changed enough on the second page so that it didn't appear to be a direct copy but obvioulsy not, so I want to apologise to Kayleigh. If you would rather I remove it please just pm me and I'll happily do that. I love your layouts and I'm learning so much about layout design etc from you so I really wouldn't want to offend you. I need to read up a scrapbooking etiquette LOL

Sarah, there are no rules about how much of a layout you can recreate exactly and how much you need to change when scraplifting a layout. Giving credit to the person you scraplifted and to the items you used is what is good etiquette and you did a wonderful job with that. I'm sure Kayleigh was very flattered by your scraplift. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your layouts in the gallery whether they are scraplifts or not! You're off to a good start.

Thanks for your reply Lynn. That puts my mind at ease a little. The last thing that I would want to do is offend anyone here. I love this community, it's everyone here that got me started in digi scrapping and people are always so helpful. Now I've made the initial leap and posted in the gallery I'm sure I'll continue to do so!

well said! No worries, Sarah - whether it's a scraplift or a CASE (copy and steal exactly), as long as credit is given you've covered your bases. and both scraplifting and CASEing others' work are a great way to learn new techniques and try out new ideas.

Like they said, there are no rules. Scraplifts are to help you create. Some of my lifts have been what I called "shameless thievery" and others I am ashamed to even call a lift they look so different. If you give credit then it is a huge compliment to have been lifted. Look forward to seeing more from you in the gallery. Welcome to DD!

This will make you feel better. Look at the first and then the second. The only difference is the pic.

LOL Kelly, Thanks, that does make me feel better! They're both great layouts.

Thanks to everyone else who replied too.

welcome to DD Sarah! off to find your layouts in the Gallery. If it makes you feel any better I have been known to actually scraplift myself, lol....

I too would think Kayleigh would be flattered, I have been known to help myself to some of her wonderful designs as well. (giving credit of course).

We love lifting! Heck, we spotlight one of our CT members each month and we all lift her! And, the Guest CT... we all lift her, too! Like everyone said, just acknowledge who you're lifting and it's all good! So, welcome to DD and now I'm off to check your gallery!

Hi Kayleigh, Thanks for taking the time to answer. I have to say it's a relief to know that you're OK with everything, everyone else put my mind at ease but seeing as though it's your work I wanted to know you were OK with me 'lifting' your design!! I love your layouts and I'm learning so much from you and the others here. I'm beginning to feel more confident so hope to post more layouts in the gallery

Hi Sarah! Just back from vacation myself and wanted to pop in and echo the others! (I'm such a follower!)

On several occasions I have been lifted exactly ... same papers, elements, etc. ... everything but the photos (and theirs were better than mine! ) You know how *I* felt? Totally honored and a bit puffed up with pride that someone would like my work enough to reproduce it!

As everyone else has already mentioned, you did things exactly the right way. Crediting Kayleigh for the design is all the etiquette that is required.

Your work is lovely and we are thrilled to welcome you to our little home on the web ... where we ALL draw inspiration from each other EVERY day.
