Default Another PS vs PSE question.

Yesterday I received an email from Adobe. Maybe some of you have received it also. Adobe has a special where they offer PSE users to upgrade to PS for 50% off - $299.

I have always thought I would like to learn PS and even told my DH that the next time they offer PSE users this special I was going to jump at it.

THEN I read this thread:
PSE vs Photoshop

Now I don't know what to do. I can't see myself every being able to design anything - I struggle with being able to put pages together. Perhaps it is just the challenge of learning the software.

Could anyone offer any other suggestions that would be helpful. I have tried to read all the threads on the subject and I thought I knew what I wanted to do, I was going to stick with PSE, until the email arrived in my mailbox yesterday.

Do you qualify for an education discount through a site like academicsuperstore.com? If you do (you only have to have a child in school . . . even kinder . . .) then you might check and see if you can buy PS from them directly. That way, you can wait until you're sure and not make a hasty decision just because of an offer from Adobe. I bought the entire Creative Suite (CS3) from that store for under $400. I just checked, and it looks like you can get just PS CS3 for $299 right now. Just a thought.

I'm not sure about that. I have a daughter who is a school teacher and a son in college but I also live in Canada and I think they educational discounts only work in the States. Does anyone know?

I would check with the site . . . you can call their customer service to see if there's a way for you to qualify.

I used to work in software licensing (many moons ago, before the kids came along), and the requirements then to qualify for educational discount were that the person purchasing the software needed to have an order written on school headed paper, or failing that, some concrete proof of their educational status. This may not apply in the US, but certainly in Britain (and I'd like to bet, Canada too) this was the case. I would check Adobe's website, and if that brings you no joy, call a software reseller/high street place and ask what the Adobe requirements are. It may be that your daughter or son would need to make the purchase in their name.
