Default PSE4 & Epson R1800 -- HELP with borderless printing?

I have Photoshop Elements 4 on a PC and a fairly new (2006) Epson R1800 printer. Below is the message I sent to Epson just a little while ago. If you read this and have any help, let me know. DO YOU PREHAPS HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM WITH YOUR R1800? Here is my message:
"My R1800 will not print what is on my screen ... I am printing page layouts with photos and text set up in Photoshop Elements 4 and printed on Epson paper (Matte Paper Heavyweight for example). I set my page in PS for letter size (8.5 x 11 in.) and set the printer for this paper size as well...if portrait I set the printer the same and if landscape, the printer is set as landscape. I click best quality and borderless. Always, the resulting print cuts off the right edge and the bottom edge at what appears to be about 1/4". The page comes out as borderless, but minus what should have been on the bottom and right . The remaining area I suppose is stretched to fit the 8.5 x 11 paper so there is something printed to fill the page; but, not what shows on the monitor! I have asked at the CompUSA where I purchased the printer and they said that they had never seen this problem before. I have wasted quiet alot of paper and ink trying to resolve this issue. HELP!!! The borderless quality and the Epson name were the driving reasons for my purchase of this printer."

Thanks! Mollie aka "readstoomuch"

Mollie,
I think I usually check "scale to fit to media" or something like that. I'm on the laptop right now and it's not networked with my Epson yet.. but I also had the same problem with loosing stuff along the border until I started doing that step. There's also an option to put in a percentage right by it.. it seems it ends up being like 98.3%.. that number sticks out in my mind.. LOL... and then it prints borderless and not cutting off. Not sure WHY this happens though, but it's definitely not just you. It's still a fabulous printer, and once I figured that all out, it's been flawless.

I have tried every hint that I have been given to no avail. Still have the crop the bottom and sides and now, I have been told by Epson that is what will happen with their printers. I am so dissapointed ... this printer costs $500.!!! I never expected to have to compensate on a printer this nice. Thanks for all of the advice, I just can't make the thing work like I want it too.

I don't have exactly the same equipment, but I do have an Epson... here's what I found that worked for me:

when you are in the printer properties, telling it to print borderless, and all that, click the second tab in the window, marked "page layout." Under the "Borderless" control, slide the slider down from Max to Min. It will still cut off a sliver, but not much. I always try to allow 1/4 margin in my design just in case.

Let me know if this works!

Thanks Jen ... I am leaving town for three or four days, but will try your advice as soon as I boot my computer up after returning! I think that someone else that mentioned a similar solution ... but I haven't tried it yet. Will let you know my results!

Jen ... I just got back today and have printed a few pages. I did try what you said, and don't think that it helped me. I am learning to keep my type back from the borders as you said about 1/4" and do try to remember that my page will not print as it shows in my PSE editor. I did get a message back from Epson and they said that it will cut off some of the edges. Dissapointing but something I will live with I guess. Otherwise I love the printer. I am still dappling with other methods and will give your advice some more trys to see if I may just failed to do exactly what you said! Entirely possible!!! Thanks for the advice.

What a pity this is -- I use CS2 and I get it to print right to the edges perfectly, so i dont think its not able to do it. Everything is right on the edge.....

so its strange --do you think it could be the pse ? I dunno

last night I printed a page with a narrow band of edge inking. I did lose about 1/8" off the left and bottom edges, as it came off the printer, and about 1/16" off the right edge. This was a horizontal LO, so I think that corresponds to the right and bottom edges if it were vertical, and the left for the smaller loss.

So I'm going to mark that on a post-it and stick it on my monitor. I'm glad it's not 1/4", though!

Oh, I'm on an Epson R200 and CS2. I think it's the printer, not the software.

Thanks Jen ... I will try a page with a narrow band and see what measurements I get. Good idea and thanks again!
