Default Organizing Fonts

Like most of you, I have hundreds of fonts, but I've never hit on the best program for organizing and displaying them. Something that will let me see them without installing them. How do you all organize your fonts? Are there any programs you particularly like?

Sorry, Laylanjean . . . I have a Mac and it has a built in program for doing this called Font Book. I'm not sure what PC users like, but I'm sure someone will be along.

Default I use Typgraf

and love it. I've been using it for years. It let you organize, sort, load and unload on the fly, and print examples. Here's a link
http://www.neuber.com/typograph/index.html

It's $35 and well worth it. You can also download a free trial.

The built in Font Book is really nice, but "The Font Thing is also a good program for Windows. I downloaded mine years ago but I think it's still around.

I use Font Book for Mac also, but back in my PC days I used The Font Thing. I liked it and it's free.

Thanks, I'll check these out. I'm also going to take a look at Extensis Suitcase. I haven't seen it mentioned here, so I'm going to mention a site for fonts that I like - betterfonts.com. They have a large collection and also let you enter your own preview text which I find particularly helpful since you don't have to download and install the font first. The font names are in their font, but some of them look totally different when you see them in a text situation.

Thanks again for the help.

Laylajean . . . dafont.com lets you type in a preview text also. Many sites do, you just have to poke around a bit.

I'm off to check out your site link. Thanks!

I tried downloading it from several different places this afternoon, but none worked. Weird. I just tried again, and it worked fine. I have it installed and will take it for a spin this weekend.

I've seen other font sites that allow preview text. I just thought betterfonts was particularly clear and straightforward. Sometimes, I'd rather not have to think about it too much.

LOL . . . I recommend that NOBODY buy a Mac until October at this point. The new operating system comes out then, you will automatically have iLife '08 on the system, and you never know what else they'll release at the same time. Just use the next month and a half to save your pennies. Those really BIG pennies.

I use MainType. I like it. They offer free download of a trial version, too.

Cassie, iLife '09 Comes out any day now. Can't wait to see it I also use Font book, but I was thinking I might do a print out guide of all my fonts and put it in a binder. I like seeing all the fonts at once

Terry, Font book is the default font organization application on your system. Just go to your Applications folder and you'll find it. When you download a font and double click the file, the Mac will automatically launch Font Book.

I have actually never thought about organizing my fonts! Should I be hanging my head in shame?????

Maybe when I finish cleaning my attic I will organize my fonts and then I will move on to the bedroom closet.
Any software for attics and closets?????

LaVona, any font that is installed on your computer is available to you in PSE. You don't have to specially install them to the software.
Let me know if you need to know how to install a font on your computer.

The Font Thing is great - but not Vista compatible (heard that before?!!)
I was unable to find a free alternative for Vista.
Anyone have a suggestion?!
