That so many digi scrappers won HOF this year? Do you think this is an indication that digi is the wave of the future? This is so exciting!! I'd love to hear your thoughts on this.

I really do think that digi is starting to make itself known. I think that like digital cameras, it will soon be the majority. It may take five years or more but I think it will happen. We shall see!
I also would love a digital mag in print. Which reminds me... I'm off to ideabooks4u.com to get Designing With Digital!!! |

WOW, I didn't even know that there are people clamoring for a separation of digi and paper scrapping.
That makes me kind of sad. I still use both mediums, but lately the "instant gratification" factor (i.e. not having to run to costo to pick up photo prints) has made me lean more towards doing digi los. I agree Jess, both mediums are beautiful and every lo created is a work of art.

I think it is wonderful that digi is being given its due...and more importantly that the digital scrappers are garnering the praise and attention they are for their wonderful creations.
I honestly feel that in the coming years that digital will grow by leaps and bounds..the younger generation is so computer savvy and I see them persuing the digital medium in greater numbers. |

I was never a paper scrapper, so to me I've never had been exposed to the digi vs paper arguement. What is really interesting to me is that I think the UK is at least 12 months behind the USA - paper scrapbooking is getting more popular, but not in the same way it is so hot hot hot with you guys. And digi scrapping is not even on the horizon!
Having said that, the great great thing about digi for me is that is doesn't matter where you are around the world you can get access to anything you need (and all those things you *neeeeeed*!!!!) via your friendly digital store (DD anyone??!!). No having to drive to the LSS for the perfect paper...its all at your fingertips! |

so well said, thanks for your input everyone. Kathi - i agree that the younger generation is VERY copm savvy. And Sarah - I agree 100% - it's so nice to be able to access digi kits regardless of where you are in the world.

I agree Liz...this is so exciting!!!
I don't want to speculate as to why some women are not accepting of us "digi gals." I for one think that it's all about personal preference, resulting in one common goal...a documentation of our lives. I hear the statement "scrapbooking is an artistic outlet" by some of the same women who criticize digital scrapbooking. The only difference I see in both types of scrapbooking are the tools being used. I honestly don't favor one over the other b/c I feel they are different enough in terms of artistic expression, yet the end result is still just a slice of my life (with just a little bit of icing on top). I am so excited to see that CK is accepting this...they picked some amazingly talented women (I'm still shocked that I'm sharing the title with them). Digi is the wave of the future yet I firmly believe that it will never replace traditional scrapbooking...they just compliment each other (if you let them)...I love that!

I do both, and do hybrid pages. For me, it's sometimes a matter of how I want a page to look- there are effects that you can't get with paper. And sometimes, I really want to scrapbook but can't get into all my supplies with kids running around, or I don't have the supplies I would need for a project, etc. So I can sit in my dining room where my computer is and scrapbook while my kids play.
I hate the artificial "feud" between paper and digi- it's a non issue. They are just two sides of the same coin. |

Call me naive! I was originally a little amazed to find the great paper vs. digital debate raging in scrapbookland.
Not a bunch of happy scrappers like I'd always envisioned at that site!I am glad that magazine editors are recognizing digital as another award-worthy approach to scrapping. Both ways have their definite strengths and I feel just as inspired by a great traditional LO as I do by a great digi one. I'm definitely not a digi snob even though digi is my personal favorite way of scrapping. I openly admit I love that touchy-feely texture of traditional, and the shine and sparkle. It's too bad that a small number of trad scrappers have their minds completely closed, because they could print out some really great papers and elements from DD and scrap traditionally with them. They don't have to be digi scrappers to use this incredible DD stuff! Susan I think digi isn't half as scary as traditional. I can hit Cntl + Z (undo) with both eyes closed. So because of that, plus the other reasons listed above, I only see it gaining in popularity. I feel traditional is here to stay and that doesn't bother me at all. Both ways are viable methods of self-expression. Last edited by susancurtis; 03-27-2006 at 03:22 PM.. |
