Oh, Katie - I have the 30-day trial and am in love even though I don't know what I'm doing. I have 27 days left and can't seem to find any free tutorials or instructions so I'm struggling, but what I've done is simply awesome! I'm hoping . . .

Can you use Lightroom to create scrapbook pages (layers) like PS or PSE? Or is it strictly a photo editing program?

No, Lightroom is just for photo editing and organizing your photos. But, it is a wonderful addition to PS and PSE. I don't know what I would do without it... it is such a interracial part of my workflow!

Tempting! TFS!

I'm currently using iPhoto and PSE. I'm not super happy with iPhoto all the time. I'm debating between Lightroom and Aperture.

I love lightroom 3, editing is right at your fingers, it's fast and has so many options!! You can lighten the lights or darken just the darks, you can adjust the clarity or make it look like a Sears portrait, you can even play around with the noise reduction! I'm sure most of these options are in photoshop but I can never find them. With lightroom they are all under the develop mode and so easy!! I recommend

Ok, I do know how to do the things that Melissa mentions in photoshop, and with camera raw it's easy/all in one place....and I have a bunch of actions in photoshop, some that I've made myself and some that I've purchased, so I like that.....does anyone know if photoshop actions work in lightroom, or is it a whole different deal?

It is a whole different animal. I tweak in Lightroom (exposure, white balance and contrast) but then I export and finish all editing in PS. It is hard to explain but the things I fix in Lightroom is easier in Lightroom. It is also easier for me to do those changes to a huge batch of photos

Kayla Lamoreaux who has the Finding Photo Flow class also uses LR for cataloging digital supplies vs ACDSee etc because it was the one program she found that really saved metadata. I'm in that class but have yet to walk through many of the lessons because of life so I can't tell you any more about her reasoning.

I have Lightroom 3 and right now I am using the free beta version Lightroom 4. I know I will buy the upgrade to 4.0 when it becomes available because I love how you can correct for shadows and highlights in this new version.

I have LR3 as well! It's the program I use to upload my photos to. Sometimes I use it, but other times I don't . For some odd reason my LR3 and CS5 don't talk well to each other! I've made sure that they both have the same color option (ie RGB) but it doesn't work! Lately I've been in love with my Adobe Camera Raw plug in!

I'm just playing with LR3 - the 30-day free trial and finding my way around. It's really exciting since I just have PS Elements and this has so many more ways to play with photos. I know it can organize them, too, but I haven't discovered how to do that yet. Everything seems so easy to find in LR - I am so tempted to buy it on sale. I hope that doesn't mean that LR4 will be out soon after and I'll feel like I have to upgrade!!

Julie, you KNOW LR4 will be available shortly. Every time Adobe puts a software on sale it means the next version is imminent, esp as LR4 is available in beta now.
