Default LightRoom 4 Beta is out....

I've been hanging out on Kelby Training today listening to Matt K and the Adobe head of development for LR.

You can download it on the Adobe site.....

One thing new is the BOOK panel which is direct linked to BLURB!!

HOWEVER.... you can also use their Book panel to make PDFS which transfer to your iPAD!! YAH..... and OF COURSE LR reads PSD files soooooooo..

EASY way to make a book of your pages and view it on iPad.

ETA: Ok, the iPad thing was an idea....just DID it and it is fabulous.

This is the link to NAPP which is open to the public....

http://www.photoshopuser.com/lightroom4

enjoy.

SO... using my PSD for pages I can get a 7x7, with 20 pages of psd plus covers, using soft cover, premium lustre paper and allowing their logo for $12.59. A Hardcover, dust-jacket, 12x12, premium lustre, with their logo is $57.44 for 20 pages....I assume this does NOT include shipping.

But I am not gonna find out because I am gonna use my iPAD!!

I was so excited about being able to try Lightroom for a few months, instead of just a 30 day trial since I am considering purchasing it. But I just read that they are dropping support for XP users with Lightroom4. I don't want to pay for Lightroom and an operating system upgrade especially when XP works just fine for my needs.

Yes, they mentioned that in the seminar....

I actually use XP on one of my Macs to be able to use Quicken...but life is definitely marching on....over me and my Quicken!! Though I did get an email from the Mac development person at Quicken who said they would eventually make a decent Quicken version for Mac. and he said NOT to start asking when!!

in time for my daughter to handle my estate, I figure!!

It is the adjustment brush with "fill light" etc that is the winning change for me. Love lightroom and downloaded this morning!

I'm confused, Why would you use lightroom if you already have PSE to make your scrapbook pages?

Thanks for this info! I swore I wouldn't try to learn anything new in the first 6 months of this year, but how can I resist this!

btw, my dh is still miffed about Quicken and Lion.

Serena, I've been pondering the same question and wondering if I need both. After watching some of the videos in the links provided by "iUma", I have come to the conclusion that Lightroom has a lot more to offer in regards to photo editing. Edit/manage photos in Lightroom and scrapbook in PS/PSE.

Question for Lightroom users ... does it handle RAW files?

Thanks

YEs it handles RAW files.

Yes, you are right it is for photographs. And raw files require editing of some sort. But shooting raw gives you amazing abilities to shape the final image....

and that is what LR is for....besides organizing and using images in a variety of ways.

The new Book option directly connects with Blurb and looks like it might be really useful for scrapbook pages.

Just wondering if we would lose all of our Presets from LR 3 if we tried out this upgrade?? Thanks!

...but they're not very hard to install. I just have to remember where I saved them all!

Yes, Amy, the Beta version is installed alongside the Lightroom version already on our computer and it does not transfer our photos or our presets. Like you say, it is easy to install them. It is also really easy to import photos.

It was late last night when I downloaded the Beta version so I only got to play a little bit with the new shadows and highlights. It's awesome allowing you to tweak parts of a photo instead of applying an effect to the whole photo when parts of the photo don't need it.

I watched the Scot Kelby videos first before I started playing. Very helpful!
