Question backing up two computers to the same EHD

I'm hoping someone can help me with something I should probably already know...

We just bought a Seagate GoFlex Desk EHD. We have two desktops and we'd like to back them up on the same drive. I've looked at the documentation that came with the drive, checked Seagate's website, and emailed them and I still haven't been able to find the answer to my question...

Can I back up both computers to the same EHD? Is the software "smart" enough to keep the backups separate and name the folders differently?

Thanks for any help you can provide!

We have three computers backed up to the same EHD using Second Copy software. My husband set it up so I don't really know much about it other than he said it was easy to do. I hope this helps!

Well I don't know anything about this ehd but if you google the name you put in your post there is a lot of info that comes up.

With my ehd that backs up my iMac, I also have it set to back up another ehd. Both ehds are connected via the usb ports to my iMac. It was done through a setting in my Time Machine/Mac software.

I'm wondering if 1. you plan to back up wirelessly and 2. if not, are the computers close enough to be connected to the ehd or 3. do you plan to manually move the ehd back and forth?? Finally, are you on a Mac or PC? That might help other readers compare what you want to do with what they do. hth!

I've had really good success with Seagate customer service. Try calling them and ask them to walk you through the set up. It's worth the peace of mind to have it set up correctly, assuming it can be done (which I think it can, in answer to the original question).

Thanks for the help, everyone. I think I'll give Seagate a call just to have peace of mind... I'll let you know how it goes.
