Default ACDSee for Mac - the new one

There's a new ACDSee app in the AppStore. It's just been released, and it's not as expensive as the pro verson for Mac.

But - is this a fraud? There's no sign of it on the ACDSee site. ETA: Not a fraud - works like a charm!

Nope. It's in the App Store for Mac. Not iPad or iPhone.

Huh? To their help page? What does it do? I am not even using my ACDSee yet, I really need to buckle down and get tagging...

I went for it and it works just like the big one except it does not offer the photo adjustment tools.... in other words it is PERFECT for us for organizing our stuff.

The database I had started for the big one does NOT work on this scaled down version but I had not finished so....might be redoing with this one.

AND somehow it seems FASTER!!

LOL.

I am not finding this anywhere. On the ACDSee site, I don't see a Help only Support and there's nothing about this there. It sounds as if it's just what I/we wanted.

Heidi and Patricia, could one of you put a link please? I'm on a slow connection this week and it's sloooo going for me searching.

Ok, my link finally came up and you start at the Apple App Store. Once I was there, the App Store Icon was in my dock. Apple - App Store - Buy, download, and install apps made for Mac.

Then I put ACDSee in and got the app info. I can't copy and paste the info there, but the $12.99 says it's an intro price. I may just get it and try. To me that price is a bag of my dh's coffee at Starbucks. Not that many of us need justification...

Oh my goodness. I love this app. SO fast! And exactly what we need. Patricia, I think you're right. It's very fast, I would say faster than the Pro app for mac!

Now, if we could get "any" and "and" searches...

ETA: This exists...

I wrote "Preview KPertiet" in my quick search pane, and it returned all previews from Katie. Oh, happy day! (I have Preview as one of my categories)

I don't have to tag the files with KPertiet, because it seems it searches in file name... Which means... See next post, which I wrote just after this one, before updating with more info.

Searching with AND returns those files which contains both of the keywords. Writing Preview AND KPertiet returns the same files as Preview KPertiet.

Searching with OR returns those files which contains any of the keywords. Writing PV or PREV returns both the files with PV and the files with PREV (Pattie includes PV in the filename of her previews.)

So: "KPertiet OR PREV" returns every preview from every designer (if they have PREV in the filename) and every file with KPertiet in the filename. KPertiet AND PREV returns only Katie's preview jpgs.

...which also means that this is a killer app even before tagging anything, as long as you know that Katie puts PREV in her file name.

Just write KPertiet PREV, and they are all lined up. Beautiful.

If we all put our ACDSee for Mac tips in here, I'll gather them in one document for us. Anybody up for that?

Great job Heidi! Now I just have to get home and install it. I just don't have time now. I'm in New Orleans and music and food are callin' my name.

Well, mine was installed so fast that I wasn't sure I'd even got the real thing. I thought I'd mess around with it today and try and figure out how to tag. I'm very excited about this because "tagging" was the only reason I wanted ACDSee in the first place and couldn't justify the price. Thanks so much for posting Heidi. :O)

AFter trying to find Katie's Previews I remembered....

About ACDSee App for MAc

If you haven't used ACDSee before you might not know that you have to let it have time to create previews of all the files. The easiest way to do this is to go into each file folder ( on the left hand column) and click down until each folder is showing. Then Click on one and shift click down the list and let it make the previews it uses in the middle column.

Only after you have let it create previews of all the files you want to search will you be able to search - even by name with the Quick Search.

I downloaded it as well. I am completely new to ACDSee, so I have no tips whatsoever. But I want to follow this thread...

Also, I am getting ready to start key wording ALL my supplies. Does anybody have a keyword list that is easy to share? I just don't want to forget something obvious, and then have to go back and add more keywords.

Seriously getting antsy to get home and play with this! (Kelly, my net connection is uberslow at this hotel. Marriott will surely be getting a complaint from us. Otherwise, I'd be on it but also know me...I'd want to sit and play with it, instead of being on vacation!)

Question before I start and Patricia this might be more for you. 2 macs. How do you do this? Right now all my supplies are on a non-portable ehd.

App will be on both machines with one purchase I'm presuming - like other apps or so dh tells me. But I do not, as most of us don't, want to have to tag/keyword any more than I have to.

LOL! Just geeking around, I guess.

I thought I was searching for the ACDSee Pro app to see the rating, but I was remembering wrong.
I found it when I went into the "Photography" category in AppStore to see if there was anything exciting and new there, and it popped up as one of the top hits. I was intrigued by the icon being different from the ACDSee Pro icon, I think, so I clicked into it.

I thought it was a fraud exactly because there was no mention of it on the ACDSee site. So strange. But I do love it!

is there any way to back up my database and then restore it to the new app? I'd hate to have to do the whole tagging bit over...

Mine is pretty basic. Or it was when I was on Windows. Designer names, fasteners, alphas, word art, ribbons, brushes, frames&overlays, solid paper, patterned paper (stripes, florals, dotted, graphic, etc), template, the different colors. Preview. I might go down a different road this time, since I'm thinking about using the Quick search pane more efficiently.

And what will determine your keywords is how you scrap, I think. If you search for ACDSee organizing styles, you'll find a website that has some good suggestions.

I don't think so, Anke... But if you go to "Tools-Back up database" in the Pro app, and then try to do a restore in the other one?

...Nope. Not compatible...

I have just copied my organization folder names (with a screen copy!! into a text file) so I can recreate that in the new version. Then Today I had all the DD products set up with their own new preview in the NEW ACDSee app.

Just typed paper in the search field and WHOA!!! I know it is not pick up everything....

ANd for some weird reason I never went very far in the full version so I FEEL like this is IT ... the system I have been waiting for.... The reason it is faster is because it doesn't have the PROCESS component which was made for photographers and makes the PRO version a bad Lightroom app. I never used it at all....

About two computers.... I DO have all my digital materials on an external hard drive and you CAN back up the database and then restore it on the second computer. SO since we are all having to retag (GAG) anyway....how about starting on an EHD. OTherwise the program can always move the files to an EHD when you get one.

Did you do what Patricia said and give it time to find the files? That should do the trick. Also, you can't have any keywords chosen at the same time as using the quick search pane, as it will use that specific keyword as a part of the search parameters. So deselect by pressing the triangle next to "Categories".

I don't remember if it's case sensitive. ETA: It's not case sensitive.

If you search for paper, it needs to have that as part of the file name or set as a keyword, I think. But you have set a keyword and it's not working?
