Question Pls tell me what this iMac message means

what does this mean? | Flickr - Photo Sharing! Sorry, I don't remember how we can link the actual photo from Flickr, if we can.

I got this message on my iMac today while watching the video in Jana's class. It happened twice. The first time it happened, it was like the screen going black with a curtain coming down. AAAARGH...the black screen of death?? Not quite but....Can anyone tell me what this means, i.e. what the trouble might be? Once I turned the iMac off and back on each time, it seemed fine.

While I have an appnt at the Apple Store tomorrow, I am not overjoyed at having to lug it in.

Help!

hmmmm.. perhaps you should bring it in to the Apple store.. per the Apple support forum...

"You need to restart your computer" message appears

This message indicates that an error occurred in the core of the operating system, which is referred to as a kernel panic. A kernel panic can be caused by damaged or incompatible software or, in rare cases, by damaged or incompatible hardware. The most likely cause of the problem is that a system file or folder has been moved, replaced, or damaged.

If you know that you have moved or renamed a Mac OS X system file or folder, then you must reinstall Mac OS X. (It won't work to just replace the specific item.) If you are not aware of any changes to Mac OS X system files or folders, try the following procedures.....

I just googled that message you got with IMAC in front of it and came up with several links if you want to take a look

Thanks so much Donna. Not only the kernel is panic-ing! Actually, there may be a new iMac in my future but I sure don't feel like doing this tomorrow. I am seriously enjoying Jana's class!
