Default New to CS5 questions!

So I have my new computer up and running. Switched from a Mac Mini to a Dell Desktop. All files are hopefully transferred and I am free to start scrapping again! But now I have to scrap in CS5 on a windows platform. Obviously there are some differences in the setup (what I see on the screen) but in some cases I have no way of knowing if that is a windows thing or a difference between CS2 and CS5?

One thing in my start-up menu there are two options for opening PS - "Adobe Photoshop CS5 (64 bit)" and Adobe Photoshop CS5. Could someone tell my why this is? And should I be working in one vs. the other? I should mention that I am kind of technically clueless.

How big a learning curve am a facing here? Do I need some tutorials or a book and does anyone have one to recommend that worked for you?

For example. In the screen modes. Before I could have the page I was working on in full screen mode (with menu bar) and then all my other items that were open in PS could be in standard screen mode... so I could easily drag the one in standard mode onto my layout in full screen mode. Now the selection for screen mode is on the top bar and applies to all open items. Also when I am in full screen mode the little bar at the bottom where I can switch over to other areas of the compter (internet, word, etc..) is not there. I feel like I am missing something simple here!

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Congrats, Julie!

If your operating system is 64-bit, you should run PS in 64-bit. It will be faster then. I'm assuming you're on Windows 7, and I would guess it's 64-bit, but you should check.

I think the screen mode thing is a difference between CS2 and CS5... I haven't noticed a difference between CS5 on a mac and windows. Anyone else has a clue? I was never on CS2...

I will be interested to read your trials and tribulations here Julie. This will be the jump I will make from 2 to 5 when I get brave enough.

I think the bar at the bottom is a Mac vs Windows thing, Julie.
You can always hit the Restore Down feature at the top right to reduce the size of your PS screen a little. Then you'd be able to see the menu at the bottom of the screen.

So for those of you on CS5... how do your screen modes work? Can you select a different screen mode for each item you have open, or does one screen mode apply to all open files?

Thanks!
