Default A Big Virus

Wow - I just lost my computer. A virus wiped out my hard drive. Luckily, most of my data is saved on an EHD - but it is getting old, too. I know it's been said so many times - but I just want to add another reminder to save, save, save! It is such a bother sometimes but I think I had it almost all saved!

My question - I haven't saved to a cyberspace site - does anyone have any recommendation for a site that isn't too difficult and/or too expensive? TIA!!

Oh, Julie, I'm sorry about that stinking virus. I hope you can salvage most of your files from your EHD. I use Carbonite for online backup and have been very pleased with the service. It backs up the EHD where I have my supplies, pictures, and pages stored.

Oh you poor thing, I feel for you. Mike clones my hard drive and well the idea is it's kept off site, but it's not. Must rectify that.

Oh boy, I am so sorry you lost your computer, that really stinks! Good thing you are using and EHD too. I used to have Mozy, but not anymore and I don't think I am going to try another one of those companies. I use several EHDs and that's going to have to do...

Have used Carbonite for years...it's like $50(or something) a year and I've never had any issues. I've had a couple hd's crash and it was just a click and everything was back as it should be.

I know your pain. Just came back up yesterday after getting hit for a second time. Backup, backup, backup is the best advice ever.

Ouch Julie. That stinks. We use Crashplan and have for over a year w/o - thank God - having to test it out.

Julie, I am so sorry you lost your computer. You were so smart to have everything on the EHD. I don't use a cloud for backup but do have the goods on more than on EHD.

Best of grace in rebuilding your system. Thanks for the reminder. Even with the EHD method there is always a little more to do.

I was hit a couple of times by a virus and then switched to Kapersky and all has been well since.
I am trying the digital lifeboat for an online back up and I have a click free EHD that is really simple, I just plug it in and it backs up whatever is new-I have used it once when I had a viral crash, and it was wonderful. I lost a few pics, but that was my fault.
I also have another EHD that I back up with-
Sorry to hear about your virus, it is so disheartening
Good Luck

I had a couple of hard drives crash and it sure is a pain. I have dvd`s and an EHD but I think I will get another EHD just in case! They say it isn`t if it crashes it is when. Also had a virus another time and I know the work it is to reinstall everything!!

Just wanted to say that with the Click Free EHD the re-install was easy-literally, I just connected, clicked a couple of times and everything except for my fonts in PSE were put back just as it was the last time I backed up. Now I have a folder for fonts, so those will be saved too.

Thank you all for your input! My computer is gone. We had to buy a new one - my computer guy is going to save any data he can from the old one and then smash the hard drive - that's another important step. I also got a second EHD and he's going to install that, too. Meanwhile I'm typing on a little, bitty laptop and can't wait to be able to scrap again! I won't know until Friday if everything is saved - I think it is! Everyone - don't put it off. Save, save, save!!

At least you've been good at saving your most precious things. Always important to think about! So sorry about your computer though.

If you are on a PC, make sure you have anti virus and malware support. DSIL layered mine this time after being hit twice in two months. Have heard that Apple is now having virus issues. Looking for a new career? Figure out how to stop these guys..

I'm so sorry that you have been hit, Julie. How wonderful that you have been diligent in backing up. I was hit a couple of years ago and fortunately I had almost everything backed up . . . a week later after I had decided to buy a Mac a tech guy found that my computer didn't actually die . . . it was just having major troubles and he did save most of all I had and put it on my new Mac.

Seriously, these people that make/send viruses - why??? - do they get a percentage of all new computer/hard drive purchases that replace the ones they kill?

So sorry about the virus! Glad you had most of it on your EHD and yay for getting a new computer!

I've been using CrashPlan for online backup. It's only $5/month and less if you buy it by the year. I like that file structure is maintained if you have to do a restore.
