I have ALL of my digi scrapbooking supplies on a separate external hard drive. When I finish a page, that page goes onto that ehd also. I'm hoping that if anything should happen to my computer that I won't have to worry about my scrapbooking supplies and pages. I have a separate ehd for my photos, too.

I have a bunch of EHDs. Two are attached to my laptop at all times. One holds photos and pages, the other my supplies. Then I back both of them up to 2 large EHDs about once a week, so I should be safe (I hope) I do not keep my zips, I think my Mac automatically throws them out anyway

No no Anke, your Mac would never do that to you!
I too keep all my original zip files on an ehd that IS backed up. I keep the unzipped folders also on an ehd and on my Macbook but not my primary iMac. When I first started digi scrapping I trashed the old zip file but learned that I wanted them. I have also lost things in my early days and now find that it's easier to look up a zip name before I buy it twice. I found that the name on the actual unzipped folder does not always perfectly match the name here in the store. (I also add AASPN to the folder name of all Anna's products, having misplaced them otherwise in the past.) Live, scrap and learn.

Don't keep zips, but I have two 1.5 TB EHD's for backup!

It is probably overkill, but I do keep all my zips. I guess I am just too afraid of losing something. I have the zips, which I burn to DVD, and then I have everything else backed up on EHD's and also MOZY (plan up in July), which will soon be CrashPlan. The thought of losing something is too much for me. ;o
The way I figure, space is cheap.

Here is a good review regarding off site back up services. I currently use Mozy but will be changing when my plan is up. Crashplan and Backblaze sound like the 'go-to' ones these days...JMHO

Frankly I'm not sure what happens to the zip folders....sometimes I think that I am in way over my head and I haven't even scrapped one page yet! Just the technical stuff is stressing me out. I switched from a PC to a MAC which was a nightmare, I'm still learning how to use the MAC...found out that carbonite PC is not compatible with the Mac version so had to buy another version of that...but that has all made me think i need to do the EHD thing...but then I freeze because that is another technical issue and I'm still trying to figure out how to work MAC Windows!

jennaz, the technical stuff CAN keep you from creating if you let it. Don't.
My advice...unsolicited I know...is open that PSE and make a page. Even a half-*ssed page. An old slogan is 'Don't let perfect be the enemy of the good.' Start off with a good-enough page and you'll make progress, find your own rhythm and become more comfortable with both your Mac and your digital scrapping. Get a template, add a background paper, the photo and call it a day! You'll be on your way in a jif ...or at least a couple of months. <-- reality check
