Default Help with my Lightroom!!!! EEK!

ok, so I just downloaded the free trial today (I don't know why... with Spring here and one of the busiest months of the year upon me.. I won't have the most time to play). Anyway, was editing some photos from my nieces bday party and all of a sudden when I click develop on ANY of the photos the super bright white areas(window light areas or shine on areas from that) turn super BRIGHT RED in the view area! It doesn't on the small image in the upper left, so is it real? It's distracting.... What did I accidentally push to have this happen? I don't know how to fix it.

thanks ANYONE!!!!!!!!

It is highlighting the areas of the photo that are blown out or over exposed. If you go to the top of the histogram on the right side all the way to the right at the top you can click the alert on and off. It helps when you used the "recover" feature... because it is recovering the blown highlights You can use it also to indicate under exposure by clicking the opposite side of the histogram.

I use it on my camera all the time.

I dont have any favs, I just taught my self by playing with the sliders. I dont do anything very to clever with it like tagging or rating or sutff, I just bring in my raw files, adjust exposure, temp, clarity, vibrance etc till I like the shot, then I export it as a jpeg in the file I want it to appear in. I'm sure there is more I could be doing with it. I'll be interested to see what others have to say. Have you visited Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Killer Tips ??

I learned to use Lightroom by trial and error, Lori, and, I am still learning. I watched the tutorials on the Adobe site and I purchased a book by Rob Sheppard. I love playing with the effects, but, I haven't figured out how to use it for organizing photos. Wish I could be more help!

I love LR and I too learned by trial and error. I did watch some youtube videos to get me started. I love the adjustment brush! Have you learned how to use the skin softener? (Not that you need it ) Have fun playing - oh and don't forget to check out presets from preset heaven!

I love to use it for white balance on my raw images and rating my images. It is as easy as pushing the number you want to rate. It makes scrapping so easy because I can narrow down my photos so much easier. Then I just export by date so that everything is in folders in chronological order.

I don't use presets... I never found any I really liked. I do all of the artistic stuff with actions in PS. You can tweak them so much easier in PS in my opinion.

KarenC posted some links to LR tutorials a year or so ago:
http://www.designerdigitals.com/digi...-lr-class.html
http://www.designerdigitals.com/digi...-tutorial.html
I worked my way through some of those and it gave me a good start.
Presets are a bit of a trap. There are SO MANY and a preset that works well on one photo does nothing for another. I have my fave presets but I still don't understand the magic of them. When I'm editing a photo I usually I find myself spending ages trying each one on a photo and then end up doing my own thing with the sliders anyway!

I'm also a "trial & error"-user of LR!
I love playing around with different settings to get various results!

But when I have a big project and lots of photos - I use presets!
They're like LO Templates to me - saving my sanity when I have a deadline!!!
There are tons of great ones out there!

I only use LR for editing. I don't use it for organizing or anything else.

Here are a couple of sites that are definitely worth their weight in gold to me.
Julieanne Kost. Senior Digital Imaging Evangelist, Adobe Systems, Inc. Adobe Lightroom tutorials.
Lightroom Class 2011 Index of Posts - Digital Scrapbooking 101
Both are free and have a wealth of info on LR.
