Question Antivirus software for mac?

Oh I feel so dumb asking this! But I've been meaning to ask for ages, and nanaz's post about malware prompted me.

I have 2 pc's and 2 mac's running on my home network. Both pc's are running McAfee Internet Security, but the mac's have nothing - the apple people assured me mac's didn't need anything. So, do you run any antivirus, anti whatever on your mac's?

No antivirus software here either for my new Mac . . . but then, I am a Mac neophyte and know practically nothing.
I will be very interested to see what some of the knowledgable ladies have to say about his subject.

I use Sophos on my MBP. Terry White (Adobe Evangelist) reviewed it on his blog a while back. At that time it was free. Mac viruses are few and far between but they're are out there.

I don't run any on my Mac nor does my dh. I usually defer to his security knowledge as his MBP must run the gauntlet of govt security. It's why he switched to a Mac. He does have a PC also for the times he MUST use IE and I can always hear the groans from his office when it's time for a new virus patch.

I recently found MacScan via StepcaseLifehack and I have to say it was very good. It did find one tracking cookie which I promptly removed. Thanks for the Sophos info!

I don't run any on my MACs, but I am going to look at the Sophos.

Thanks for the info.
