Default organization

So I was doing a little reading on the site and came across a thread in which Cassie was showing how she organizes her things and all I can say is WOW! Is there some sort of step by step tutorial for how to organize our things? I'm not sure what she uses. I'm currently using PSE9, but think I might like something else (ACDSee?)

Cassie only uses the folders on her computer, she does not use a tagging system at all. I just got ACDSee for Mac and am loving it so far. It takes a lot of time to tag everything but it's going to be so worth it!

Same here. You have to do what works for you (and fits your budget). :O)

Hi, Jenna . . . got your PM . . . the others are right. I don't use any sort of tagging system. I simply created folders and subfolders on my system (Finder on a Mac), and I file the products there. I just prefer this method because I don't ever want to spend so much of my life tagging files just to have some software update or system upgrade to cause it all to come crashing down (ask around . . . it happens!). I know that my folders will always stick with me.

I recommend coming up with an organizational system that works with your brain. Everyone's would be different. You can use the one I provided screenshots of as a go-by if it helps. Just know that you'll find yourself adjusting it to fit your needs as your collection grows.

I spent the entire weekend getting all of my things back into folders...all 50+ gigs of it! All I can say is how happy I am to be able to use just the folders to find what I want. No program. No time wasted.

Cassie: could you link me to the screen shots you were refering to?

yes just wanted to add that I use the folder system. I was using Picasa and tagging but found it so time consuming. After completing Album Magic Anna Aspanes class, she uses this method, I stopped tagging in Picasa and now I know where everything is and don't waste time.

I must say that since using this method I use Picasa more often to view all my folders as I can see them much quicker if I'm not sure what paper to use etc.

Hope that helps.

I also am a "convert" from using PSE to tag everything to simply using folders and subfolders!! It got to the point where it seemed I spent more time tagging than anything else!!
My folders are organized by website - designer - kit name.

The one additional thing I have done is copy each thumbnail of the kit overview into a couple of extra folders: ALL the overviews, only templates, only brushes, only textpaths. Those overviews are named by website-designer-kit name so I know exactly where to go to retrieve what I want.
Then I simply browse through those thumbnails until something jumps out at me!
