I haven't done it yet, but after you install Crashplan on your friend's computer, your friend have to provide you with a code that lets you connect to his/her computer.

This code is displayed when you click on the "Friend" option under backup options. Then you invite your friend (link in Crashplan), which will send your friend your backup code. When your friend accepts, you will get a code in return, and get access to their computer. I will try it out with my brother tomorrow, to check out the process.

Found this tutorial for backing up to a friend's computer...

Ok, I just found this on Crashplan's website, and it made me giggle... ETA: And think that they have gained new customers the last couple of days/weeks.
Note the discount for mozy converts (link included).

FAQs for Mozy Converts

Are CrashPlan+ unlimited plans really unlimited?

Yes. We don't limit in any way. No file size limits, no file type restrictions, no bandwidth throttling.

How do I know you won't cancel your unlimited plans like Mozy did?

We are completely committed to unlimited backup plans and have no plans to change that policy.
What if I purchase CrashPlan+ and don't like it?

You can cancel at any time and get a refund for the unused portion of your subscription. See our Cancellation Policy.

How does CrashPlan+ compare to Mozy?

CrashPlan has several unique features:
  • You can back up to local hard drives, to other computers on your network, to friends' computers, in addition to our online destination, CrashPlan Central.
  • Your data can be backed up as often as every minute, for unprecedented protection.
  • You can restore your files from the CrashPlan desktop or from any Internet browser.
  • CrashPlan products work equally well on Windows, Mac, Linux and Solaris.
  • CrashPlan+ is based on the enterprise-grade technology of CrashPlan PRO, which is used by some of the world's leading technology companies to protect their data.
  • Until you tell us differently, deleted files are available to be restored forever.

Is there special pricing for Mozy users?

Yes. Through Feb 15, 2011, you can get a 15% discount on any CrashPlan subscription here: www.crashplan.com/mozyonover

How funny, Anxela, that they do seem to be capitolizing on Mozy's policy change. I wish I was ready to get a new plan, but my Mozy runs out in June. I might switch anyway, as I think the great thing about them is that you can have a family plan, which will mean my daughter's EHD would be backed up as well. Good for CrashPlan, I am still angry about Mozy's policy change. I am thinking they will be sorry in the end, or maybe it is all of crazy scrapbook people that have been backing up TB's of data. (I currently backup 1.2TB
