i have mine in iphoto and if you hit the space bar it enlarges the photo then you can scroll through with the arrow keys. Or in finder when you open the folder there is a button at the top left of the window called coverflow (looks square like a tv) you can stretch it bigger with your curser to get a large photo and then scroll through with your arrow keys and delete

I often use Finder, and I use the space button to get a quick preview. Click once on the photo, then hit space. You can then press the "down" arrow to go to the next photo.
I'm sure there are others that have better ways to do this. I use Lightroom to manage my photos, and delete through that.

I upload all my photos and now videos to iPhoto and immediately delete the useless ones. I also have 3 libraries - one for current photos, one for digital supplies (waiting...patiently...for ACDSEE) and one that has some very old, pre 2000 shots of my dh's. Holding down the Alt/Option key when you open iPhoto allows you to select the library you want. btw, my oldest library resides on an ehd that is also backed up by TimeMachine.
I think I am going to start a new Library containing 2011 photos on. I didn't think of it before last week but switching the week's photos (120) won't be that much trouble. Then the 2nd oldest library will shift residence to the ehd also. btw, as soon as I upload, I also immediately tag/keyword them at least with the year - 11 - and have a smart album which takes all the photos with the year keyword. My default is to split by date, and I then rename the day with this format 11.01.09 for today. It's easy for me to find photos that way. hth.

Thanks so much ladies.. Heather that coverflow was exactly what I was looking for.. I don't really like importing my photos into any other software because I've found in the past that my folder structure is adequate for what I do and software comes and goes and so does my tagging :-( Perhaps one day when I've finished scanning/organizing all my photos I'll think about a system of tagging.. Thanks so much ladies for taking the time to help me out.. I now truly DO love my MAC :-)
Oh and Anxela just fyi your instructions were an alternate method too what Heather suggested.. gets me to the same place..

I've just started viewing my photos in Bridge [just hit the space bar and use the arrow to move through]. I actually prefer it now to finder as the pictures come up bigger and they change their orientation for viewing better. Then I rename by date in bulk, add keywords, etc all in the one place. Just a preference.

Thanks Donna I've been using Bridge but it's very unreliable on my machine for some reason.. constantly says it has to shut down and/or I need to clear cache.. I do love the bulk rename feature though :-)

I just recently switched from Windows XP PSE 5 to Mac PSE9, so I'm still scratching my head over some of the differences. I've read a bunch of these hint and organizational threads, which have been enormously helpful. I haven't seen the answer to this question yet though -- is there a known issue viewing TIFF files in PSE on a Mac? I am working with a template I created in TIFF, and its appearance on the screen on the Mac is kind of wonky. The template has clipping masks (simple squares and rectangles) that show on the screen as a white shape with a black outline that is not entirely outlining (it covers two sides only). The main background shape layer is showing a bunch of overlaid little file images, when it was just a simple shape layer to start with. Anyone have any experience using TIFF files in either PSE9 or on a Mac that would explain its odd appearance? TIA
