The other thing about it is it is about a thousand less than the 70-200. I also thought (for a while), I could kind of hide it from my DD because it is not white, but she knows about the red line on the 'L' lenses, and she will spot that in a second
LOL you raised that girl well!

You are all such enablers!

That's it, starting a lens fund for next year, my brother in law has the 24-70 and I've been eyeballing it for a loooooong time already, guess I should just go ahead and take the plunge ^^ (well, after the ship of money finally comes into the harbor)

My friend and I bought bought the 24-70 2.8 last year, and we always talk about how we rarely remove it from our cameras. If I do take it off, it's only for the 50. I ended up selling all my other lenses and just keeping these 2. I LOVE the 24-70! I think it's well worth saving up for!

I have to admit that my 50 mm is getting more and more time on my camera now. I'm not that good at using zoom lenses. I love trying to get the shots I want with a prime lens. I got the 70-200 before the 24-70 (mostly because I love to take portrait shots, and the bokeh on that lens is amazing), but my Sigma 50 mm f/1.4 also is amazing for portraits (Canon 40D, so it compares to a 80 mm lens on a full frame body).

I've had the 50 1.8 for six months now and it's my walking-around lens, but I really missed my wide angle, even though my wide angle kit lens is awful. I think I need to save for a wide angle prime. In good light, my 75-300 is great and I use it ALL the time for wildlife, animal, and scenery shots. If only, if only! The 200-500 would be a major coup, but at $900 I need to put it on the wish list. I love seeing how everyone has different uses/wishes for their lenses---I do not do portraiture, I'm terrible at it, so an 85 1.4 doesn't tempt me, but the long lenses make me salivate. I'd carry the 70-200 around all the time, sore wrist and all, if I could.

I rented the 24-70mm lens in October...mistake! I am renting it again for a few weeks...MISTAKE! Adding it to my Christmas List along with a flash. Oh if only I hadn't been so naughty this year!

My 50mm lens lives on my camera. But must go check out the 24-70mm and have a heart attack at the price.

I needed to replace my 28-105mm lense just before going away on our holiday in October. I ended up buying the 24-105mm f4 L IS. I am loving it, it is heavy and I would love a smaller aperture, but it is much sharper than my old lens. It stays on my camera all the time. I debated between this one and the 24-70mm f2.8, but it was another $500 more expensive and wasnt IS Also, I was coming from the 28-105 and I thought I would miss the length. I love my 50mm f1.4, but because I havent made the leap to full frame yet, I find it limiting when trying to get shots of my DS. It does give beautiful bokeh though.

It's a sad day .... I have to return my rented 24-70mm and 200mm. Spent a lot of time yesterday using both of them. My next rental in the Spring will be the 24-105mm and 70-200mm or 70-300mm. Then I should be able to decide what my next purchase will be. Rental is a good way to go before sinking big money into a lens.

Sam, thanks for the your comments on your 24-105mm ... I too want to give that lens a try, even though it is f4 and I have truly enjoyed the f2.8 of the 24-70mm, but I like that the 24-105mm has IS.
