I typically fit between 5 and 10 on a page. I never did one-photo-per-page layouts when I did paper because it was so cost prohibitive, and I guess since I went digital I haven't gotten into the habit. I will sometimes do a full-bleed page with one picture, but not often.

I do both. Event pages generally have more photos. Sometimes it's nice to put one larger photo on one side and several on the other. Other times I have a special photo that I just want to have by itself (like my DD's self portraits with her cell phone). It's such an individual thing and I definitely don't have a rule I adhere to

I do believe this question has come up before! LOL!
If I do a one-photo page it is usually either because it is a special photo and I want to make it BIG on the page. Even for the 30MM challenge last weekend I went back and added two more pictures! I take way too many photos and need to fit as many as possible on a page! I just looked at my gallery and I have done quite a few 2-3 photo layouts recently which I would say is even a low number for me! I think sometimes people believe that fitting lots of photos on a page makes them too small for viewing when printed but I have found on my 12x12 layouts even the pictures I thought may have been cropped a bit small look great! One thing I do for all those "random" photos is to make a recap 2-pager for each month. I have been using Lynn's Scrap Express #13 templates which gives me room for 12 extra photos each month with room to journal about each one! |

I use to scrap only in 2 page spreads and would pack the photos on each page. For most everyday photos, I still like to scrap multi page/multi photo layouts, but often times like to showcase that special lone photo, having it be the only photo on the page. I am currently working on quite a bit of heritage photos, and those almost always end up being one single photo, single page layout.

I would have to go back and look, but I do believe it is a rare occasion when I scrap only one photo-usually for a challenge. When I scrap my travel and exploration memoried, I generally cant decide which photo tells the story the best, so I end up with many photos on a page!

I don't think I'd print out one of those minimalist pages-you know the ones, the pages with one or two itty-bitty teeny-tiny photos surrounded by ephemera and tons of white space? At this time, I think, what's the point of those pages? It's an esthetic I understand, but wouldn't do myself, except as an experiment.
The only pictures I've done as singles on a page are older photos, where they're the only ones of their kind, taken pre-digital with film or when I've got a lot to say about it. I'm with you, wanting to get a bang for buck.

I rarely do one photo layouts. I think it is the paper girl in me. Too much work and too many photos to scrap. I will do it for special photos... but again it is rare.
I think most of the time my magic number is between 3-5. Event pages I cram as many photos as I possibly can! I decided this year though I am going to use those inserts in my albums that allow me just to put 4X6's in a slot for holidays. I will still scrap my favorite but for example my Christmas photos... I hate to leave some out

I had to laugh at Anna's reply ... she summed it up pretty well! The photo(s) are always the main focus of my pages, so I may use 1 or might have 150 so will use 10!

I do both but recently have been using more than one on a page, especially to tell a story or showcase an event or place. When I paper scrap (which I still do occasionally as I go to a crop once a month or so) I tend to use one photo mostly. Digi scrapping I find it's so much easier to use more photos and experiment with size and placement.

when doing photobooks i ether do 2 page spreads with LOTS of photos or i do one page with lots of photos and the opposing page one full bleed pic.
for my loose pages i usually get as many pictures as i can on a page without it being cluttered. i can't for the life of me do one photo pages. it's just not me

I go back and forth. It has been so wonderful being able to resize my photos since I have gone digi. I primarily worked with 4 x 6 while paper scrapping and I use to long for a larger photo without having to get it enlarged. So now, I sometimes take advantage of using one larger photo, and others times I can use lots of smaller photos. I just love the freedom! I usually have many photos per setting, but I am okay with choosing one that tells the story - other times I want every single photo. Happy Scrapping - and your boys are SO cute!

I'm all over the place with my scrapping, some single, some multiple, of course P365 they all had 7 photos.
The most photos I have put on a page is 100!!! (that was when I was up to my 100th day in P365). I think I nearly broke my photoshop! LOL

I think I did 120 for the cover page of my 2007 Disney book. (I've lost the PSD files, so I don't know for sure . . .) It was pain in the tail, especially since I didn't have a template, and didn't know about the ALT + Click method of duplicating layers. I know what you mean about breaking PS---my wrist complained for days. But I got to the point where I was committed. I wasn't going to quit after investing all that time in the first 50 photos!

I do a lot of single-photo pages. Part of the reason is that I don't enjoy doing event pages--they just don't inspired me--and I love showcasing a single photo that I just love. Since I also get prints made of individual photos to put in a traditional photo album, using lots of photos on my scrapbook pages is just not a priority for me.

I print 8x8, so I don't want too many photos on a page... they get too small if there's too many! So I have done lots of 1 photo layouts... mainly for challenges or lifts! But probably between 2 to 5 per page for events, etc. I like to mix photos and paper too!
So in addition to this question.. If you do lots of photos per page, what size do you print??? |
|
||||

I thought this was an interesting question, and I wondered if what I thought was really what I did! I'm not keen on one photo pages but then again, I'm not making pages for children or grandchildren which is where I usually find a lot. I do like very very simple pages with one photo - more art style - but I found that I usually do 1-photo pages if it's heritage, heritage about me! included, or for a challenge/idea found here.
In looking I saw that most all my 12" books have 5+ photos on a page, 5 being the most common number. I will often add a 12+ photo page or two but boy I get sick of the adding and then clipping part. One thing I have done is to add clipping masks to some of the templates here that I like a lot (that are mask-less) so that step is already done for me next time I use the template. I do those multi photo shots, in part, because there is 'someone' who is likely to say...What about that picture of X? Why didn't you put that in??? I have offered to teach him how to scrap but so far no takers. I print at 12" unless it's 8.5x11. Sometimes, I will put the 8.5x11 on a 12" layout and add a bit to make it look right.

Interesting question. I mostly do 1 photo pages because I've still not got truly into the scrapper's way of taking loads of photos all the time. I often have a fun story I want to tell on a page, so just find a photo I like from that time.
I admit, like Laura, that I'm not inspired by event scrapping. I tend to put too much thought into them and don't enjoy them as much. I guess if I printed my pages I might think differently, but I haven't tried printing a complete book yet.

I haven't been digi scrapping that long - and got carried away following the 'white space' trend - to be shocked when I had a few printed out 8x8 - what a waste -
Now I mainly do 1-3 per page - usually one but am back journaling and back to my roots - getting the story down accompanied by a photo or two. but decent size photos. I'm not being critical of the 'style trends' that come and go but realised (with the help of DD gallery and challenges) the reason I am scrapbooking I would love to do a book but haven't organised enough pages - yet. My goal is to do a heritage album but I get side-tracked ![]() Has anyone done an album with no real 'theme' but say favourite photos or layouts? Anna's 'Album Magic' class was my first real attempt at digital - I should have stayed with my outlined plan and my book would have been completed..... I would love to actually see and touch a complete printed book - I've never even had a 12x12 layout printed. This I must do even if I have it done locally at Wal Mart I'm babbling so will now go and have a look in the gallery and the shop. One quick question - totally off topic - is there a limit to one's wish list?? Cheers everyone. thanks for listening

I scrap what the photos tell me. If the is one specail one, then its a 1 photo page, but if there are lots, then I would say 3-5 is about where I sit too. I hate it when I have 4 good shots, its so much harder to get looking good
