Default drop shadow styles collection

I am brand new. Have purchased a bunch of Cassie tutorials. But just wondered before the sale ends tonight if this perhaps something i need to buy now? I have PSE7, windows 7, PC. When i start doing my pages i want them to look realistic and i know i will learn a lot from the tutorials. Just wondering. I think i could squeak out a few more bucks but a little afraid of shadows. OR should i wait until November? Hope this makes sense. Thanks for opinions. I know under $3 why not but i have spent a lot already and want to make sure ( :

I love Katie's shadows, I use them over and over. There are cases that you will need the shadow technique in Cassie's tutorials, too. I'd say get Katie's shadows and use them until you are comfortable with making your own.

It says includes installation instructions but does it explain how to use them or do i find that elsewhere? Is it a program you run at the end of your page? Slightly confused, probably making it harder than it is going to be.

Well i looked on the PSE thread. Of course 2 tutorials of Cassie that i didn't get were the bending shadows one and gaining perspective. Should i get one or both of these before even attempting Katie's shadow action thing? ( : Just thinking out loud or kind of mumbling to myself.

Katie's shadows get installed in Elements and you add them with a click of a button. Cassie's will help you create and adjust your own. I would get both you can't go wrong since they are on sale!

Oh my, get the bending shadows tutorial, it is amazing!!!! That really totally floored me when I first learned that technique. I use Katie's shadows all the time but when I want to lift a corner or an element, I use Cassie''s technique. Get it!!!

You can't go wrong... you'll find you use both purchases all the time. Don't forget that every Thurs. there are a ton of specials in the store. I always check my wishlist then to see what might be on special... supplies I just can't live without Can we all say "enable"...

Don't wait, Rhadonda! RUN to the store and get one or 2 of Cassie's tutorials. They make it so much easier to learn the techniques that you build on later. One of my favorites was Getting Started With Templates because it shows you not only how templates work but also how to save parts of templates to use in other layouts. If I'm not mistaken, I think most all of Cassie's tutorials show how to make shadows too. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

This thread got me so excited! When I looked at Katie's drop shadows however, they say specifically they are not for PSE. Does she have a set for PSE that I'm just not finding? Thanks!

Kudzu, I have this set

Drop Shadow Styles Collection - Photoshop Actions And Styles

and I use PSE 6.0. A little tricky to install, but they run beautifully. I never use the PSE default shadows anymore!

Thank you Sara. I guess I just overlooked these. This is what's missing from my layouts, but I've never used the ones installed in PSE, because even I can tell they aren't quite right. I don't use a lot of embellishment, but adding a realistic look to simple paper layers makes so much difference.

Thanks again!
Tami

Tami, I'm sorry I didn't know your name---thanks for including it in your signature! I have a terrible memory, and I haven't been on the forums much lately.

Katie's shadows are much more subtle and artistic than PSE's defaults, but even with hers, I often double-click on the "fx" in the layers palette, and change the height and opacity of the shadows to make them even more subtle. You can play around with it and see what works best!

Sarah

Sarah, you're sweet! Don't worry about my name - I've been hiding behind kudzu so I could just lurk, and pop in when I got the courage to ask a question. Seems like I find myself here more and more, so I may as well out myself with a real name!

Thanks for the shadowing advice. Can't wait to try it on my new sale stuff.

Have a lovely evening,
Tami
