Exclamation layouts larger than 12x12 possible?

Hi,
I was wondering if it is possible to make a layout larger than 12" x 12"?

I am trying to make a photo layout for my mom's 70th birthday showing all of her 28 grandchildren and great grandchildren... In order for each child's face to be large enough for her to enjoy clearly, I would like to enlarge the layout to larger size.. maybe like 20" x 20"?....

My question is.. would this make the resolution too crappy to print? Will a 300dpi layout "stretch" to an acceptable resolution? Or is there a more efficient way or size to enlarge it to?

I really need some tips asap, as her birthday is coming quick! Any ideas?
Thanks!

I would say when you create the page in photshop just to size it to 20x20 and 300dpi...I think it will be more than sufficient and wont be pixelated at all!! Good luck with the project!!

I have worked with a local printer to print some of my work on canvas baners and vynil sign board. I designed the project as a 12x24, then had them print 24 x 36. There was no problems at all. The photo's weren't grainy at all. Plus the canvas holds up whell when we hang it on the barn wall.

I believe you could. It would cause your final print to be 180dpi. If you have a home printer, I would try a portion of your layout printed at the 180dpi to decide.

have you noticed on Shutterfly that when you want to order a print of a photo or layout that it says what your choices are if the resolution is high enough. One of the choices for most of my photos and layouts is 20 x 20.

I say try Bailey's idea. Upload to Shutterfly and order the largest size you can.

I designed a layout for a poster for my son's Air Force promotion ceremony. To begin the poster, I created a document in Photoshop that was 36 by 48 inches with a resolution of 300 dpi. That is the size the finished poster was printed. It turned out beautiful--very crisp and clear, with all of the photos large enough to be seen. I had it printed at Kinkos. Here is a link to the poster in the gallery so you can get an idea:

I recall hearing on a podcast about Costco printing 12x36s. btw, this was suggested as a way to print three 12x12s for less cost than doing them as individual 12x12s. I may check on this in person tomorrow and let you know more about it.

I think the rule of thumb is that 300dpi is good, but that you can stretch a 300dpi image to double size (making it 150dpi) and it is quite acceptable. Any lower resolution than that and the image will look grainy to the eye.
But there's no reason why you need to start with a 12x12 canvas!

I have done it, I created a collage page for my sister-in-law for a frame that was 55cm x 55cm, which is 21.6 inches x 21.6 inches. I started with a blank page at that size and stretched the background paper out to cover it. No loss of quality at all. Flattened it when finished to a jpg and kept it at 300dpi. She had it printed at Harvey Norman a store over here to put in the pre-bought frame. We were stunned at how good it looked.

Just had 16x20 printed at Costco for $5.99 and have done 12x36 for $4.99. Speaking of sizes, I keep wanting to do a book at 6x12 both vertically and horzontally. Anybody know of anyone that prints 6x12? TIA

NanaZ, can you upload those 12x36" or do you have to do it in the store? I couldn't find any upload info for that size but that doesn't mean it isn't there!
