Also, since I just spent two nights organizing in the PSE organizer, I am hoping I can make it work. However, I'm wondering if others could advise me - I had the organizer open and then also opened the editor - I obviously have to be able to access my stuff as I work to pick and choose...but my editor crashed, so I'm wondering if there is a way to just have PSE running once, but access both? I'm not sure exactly what I'm asking, but I have a pretty good operating system I think, so I wasn't expecting to have a problem. Oh, I should note, I'm on a PC.
Thanks! |

See this thread: http://www.designerdigitals.com/digi...t-nudging.html
After I've used an effect, I have to close and re-open PSE8 again to "re-set" the nudge tool, but I'm going to try some of these suggestions and see what happens!

I found that using the organizer for the stash really slowed down my pc. (I'm mac now so not an issue) Think others have commented on that before. Many really have praised ACDSee for organizing their supplies. Might check into that before you get too far. Updating to new software is always "interesting". Have fun Tesia...

Tesia.......
I use the organizer on my PC and have PSE 8. I LOVE it....I use a laptop and have 6 or 8 MB of Ram...it runs fast and and works well for me.....my nudge always works. I always have both the Editor & Organizer windows open at once...no problem. Just as another note....I don't "tag" my elements....I just add a caption usually with the kit name and name of item and color.....like...."Going Away Blue Paper".....I have over 7,000 separate items and just by typing in blue paper...I can find any blue piece of paper that I have. I really don't know if this is the "proper" was to organize...but it sure works for me. Hope this helps....feel free to pm me if you want.

i have the same problem with the nudge thing. what a HUGE mistake the developers of PSE 8 made with that!! (among other things. i'm not that fond of 8 for a few reasons.) but glad you posted this because it drives me nuts, and there seems to be a fix! (thanks, Linda!) sometimes i wish i was still using PSE 4!

I'm finding more quirky things about PSE 8 that I don't know if I can live with...I'm really not liking how it keeps the little rectangles of files down at the bottom when I try to minimize it to the tray...the tray is something I loved about PSE7 as opposed to CS2 like I use at work. I don't like all those little files cluttering up my workspace! And it makes me crazy when I can't get to something (like layer delete or duplicate) because they are covering it up! What's up with that?? I'm seriously thinking of returning it (Yay Costco!) but I'd like to see if anyone else has found things they really like about 8 vs. 7 (besides the guides which I will be sad to give up if I return it)...

i'll tell you what REALLY drives me nuts. when you select something that's in the work area, say a piece of paper or an element. you want to keep it there, but you want the window to be smaller. in PSE4, my old format, CTRL- would make the ENTIRE thing smaller. In PSE8 it makes only the window smaller, but the paper or element stays large, so you can't really tell what it is that you've got.

Tesia, I don't know if anyone answered the question or if you figured it out, or if I'm not understanding it. When you open Elements, choose "Edit" on the welcome screen and the editor will open. Then in editor, click "Organize" and the organizer will open. It will be open in two windows, and it does, in fact, run two instances of the program (in task manager there are two distinct processes running). I have less than 1 GB RAM on my system and I can run them both with just a minimal slowness, though I do have to restart after each LO. So if you have 4 GB +, it should be okay. Then again, I only have 7,000 items in my supplies database. The whole project bin concept is why I don't use CS4, which I have on my system. I hate how you can't see everything available in one place in CS4. So if an upgrade messed with the layout or aesthetics of the project bin, I'd dump it faster than a hot potato and go to another version.
