Default Desktop setup?

I was wondering how you have your keyboard and pen tablet organized on your desktop? Beside each other, or do you have any other clever solutions?

I have my keyboard slightly to the left and more away from me, and my tablet closest, a little to the right. But I sometimes think that this isn't the best solution..?

My keyboard is on a pull out shelf thingy from under the desktop, so it's lower than the desktop when it's pulled out. And my tablet is directly in front of my right hand.

I'm on a laptop, so that is directly in front of me and the tablet sits to the right of the keyboard, so I can reach it easily with my right hand. Works for me

My laptop is directly in front of me with my tablet and pen on the right side of the laptop. (I am Right Handed) I use the pen exclusively on the tablet for all computing. I drop the pen to type on the keyboard and it has become so automatic and quick that I never think about it.

Just like Carol. Dh built a pull out shelf under my work surface for the keyboard. My tablet is directly in front of my monitor. I just hate having to stop and put down the pen to type though!

That's what I don't like about it, too. I'm getting pretty good at writing with the pen in my hand.

I am at a PC and not using a pullout shelf for the keyboard. It is on the desktop. I put the tablet to the right of the keyboard and up a little so that my hand just lays on the desk and my hnad ends up over the tablet.

I don't lay my my pen down to type. It is just like at work. I roll it under my hadn and hold it with my thumb. I guess you would say that it is laying at the base of my fingers. Then when I am done typing I just sort of flip it back out by moving my thimb. Sounds hard but is very easy!

I guess it is easy for me because I am always typing and writing at work and can't take the time to lay down my pen. And you really don't need your thumb only to hit the space bar!

Oooh, great technique! I'm using it now and it works like a charm! Much better than my previous technique. Thanks for sharing!

I have to try that Barb. Right now my pen always winds up in my mouth when I type, much easier than putting it down and picking it up all the time.

Hehe, I love all the questions you ask Heidi, guess we're all nosey.

I'm on a laptop though, so generally just balance it at the moment on my huge bump while relaxing on the sofa lol. Keep meaning to ask DH for his tablet as he never uses it at work.

I told my DH that I "needed" one...although I really just wanted one!!! I have had it since last fall and simply love it. I have a laptop and the tablets sits off to the right....and I use the pen just like "sawdust" (Barb) does. One thing that nobody mentions is the wrist rest. I have a little bean baggie thing for my wrist.....that sits right at the end of the tablet. That was a suggestion from Kelly (mugsbigsis) and it has really helped my wrist issues.

Hope this helps you.

I so need to see Barb in a picture doing that, I can't imagine it in my mind. I touch type so my thumb is always on the spacebar.

I have a bean bag thing on the edge of my mousepad at work, I wonder why I haven't thought of that here at home. Silly me. Must do that.
