Default ACDSee . . .WOW!

Thanks to everyone who recommended ACDSee in my recent post.
I've used the PSE organizer for four years, and couldn't see myself using anything else, until my hard drive crashed and my PSE restore didn't work.

I downloaded the ACDSee trial, and bought it by the next day. I just organized and cataloged almost 5,000 photos, and I actually enjoyed it!! My scrapping stuff will have to wait until my hand recovers.

Even though I haven't learned nearly everything yet, here is what I like over PSE:

1. It is very much easier to catalog items. Once the categories are set up, a simple check mark is all it takes.
2. You don't have to import photos one folder at a time; they are there when you open the program!
3. The backup process is amazingly simple. I always found PSE's backup utility very confusing. I never knew exactly what I was backing up. In ACDSee, you can choose to back up only the database, not all your images. It's so fast and easy that I find myself doing it every time I enter something new.

If you're wavering about this software, it's been worth every penny to me!

I'm so jealous. I'm still waiting for the mac version. I've tried the trial and I'm totally sold as well. :O)

I've been using it so long I've forgotten all the things that Organizer DIDN'T do! So glad you love it!

ACDSee totally rocks! I agree about it being lightyears ahead of PSE Organizer, too. I can't scrap without it now!

I don't think I could ever find anything if I didn't use ACDSee!

I KNOW! I have the beta too, but I can't justify using time on tagging before I get the final version and know that the database will be transferable. Except for adding a couple of keywords here and there, they embed into the files and are supposed to be viewable without the database. I hope it will be here this autumn...

I hope so too. I am not looking forward to all the tagging but the results are certainly worth it! I can't wait for the Mac version!

I have stopped tagging in iPhoto in anticipation of an early fall rather than a later one. I am trying to be optimistic!

Scrapbird- I am another who can't scrap w/o ACDSee! If you haven't found this website yet- hop over to http://www.digiscrapinfo.com/joomla/- there lots of great tips on the software.
The ACDSee website also has some tutorials in case you get stuck.

Does anyone know when the MAC version is going to be released?
I am using ACDSee on m PC.........but I recently switched to MAC and I love it!!!! But I haven't got Photoshop yet for my MAC, so I still scrap on my PC for the time being. I have all my digi stuff tagged and saved on an external hard drive. I hope when the MAC version comes out it will read the tags that are on my files already.......don't want to have to tag again!!!!!! Aaaaack!

Carrie, I have been told fall by ACDSee. Now fall is from Sept 21 to Dec 21 and I'm hoping for the earlier end!

btw, how come I now see scrappers in Hawaii now that I'm back on the mainland??? btw, I tried to get to that Scrapping store in Hilo, but of course when they were closed. Figures, huh?

Maureen,
Thanks for the heads up, I hope it's the sooner part of fall and not the end!

That's always the case with Hilo........no consistent business hours! Just kidding, it's a pretty nice store. Maybe next time you're here. I was just in DC and MD last month! Hot, hot, hot!

I do like ACDSee, but I hate its random crashes. I didn't have problems really before I upgraded from 9 to 12, but I am also using it on a newer computer most of the time (my database is on my EHD). That said, I'll take the random crashes over PSE Organizer's slowness, etc.

Happy organizing!
