Default EHD suggestions for Mac

Mac users, what EHD are you using and how do you like it? I need to purchase one and would like to know what real users think. I've read some technical reviews, but I always learn more from the mac users here. Thank you!

I have a Western Digital My Studio and a LaCie Starck edition. The WD has a FireWire, which is supposed to mean quicker transfer of files. But I really don't know what to tell you to buy. I haven't had problems with mine so far.

Thanks Heidi. The WD with firewire is what I'm looking at. I have a Time Capsule for continual back-ups and restoration, but I like the idea of having something solely for my personal files - photos, digi supplies, recipes, homeschool stuff, etc. Thanks for the info

On a broader note, I really enjoy reading your comments and suggestions here. Thanks for taking the time to contribute - it really helps!

The only advice I have is that if it is for a laptop, get a portable ehd. And the two Western Digital ehds that I have used have a cord that plugs into the unit as well as to the computer. Where they plug into the unit comes disconnected if slightly bumped and one of the ones I used crashed when this happened. I lost everything and had to have it retrieved--which was only partially successful. The Mac Store that recovered it recommended the Western Digital notebooks instead of the non-portable version.

I agree with Janet - the small portable ones are great if you are on travel with your Mac. They are slightly more expensive per GB,
but if money doesn't matter, they are great. I have one of those too, for putting some digital supplies and photos on when traveling.

The only issue I've had with those is that my first of those stopped working after getting a bump. LaCie has one called LaCie Rugged or something.
I don't know if that is a little more bump-proof (or how I should put it), but I think so. What to get depends on how you treat it of course.
