Question ? for TU_Jenn

Thank you for your clear explanation of creating an .xml file for Styles in PSE 8 in an earlier thread http://www.designerdigitals.com/digi...s-pse-8-a.html. I'm presuming you can use that same template to make one for any style. Do you use the exact name that is in the .asl file?

TIA, Mauree

Maureen - glad I saw this!

When I created my xml files, yes, I named then exactly like the ASL file, all the way down to upper/lower case and punctuation (not sure case matters, but I work in IT on unix computers, and they are case sensitive so it's a habit ).

For example: I have an ASL file named AASPN_OPtionalDropShadow.asl, and I named my xml file AASPN_OPtionalDroPShadow.metadata (I think this came with one of Anna's curled paper edges!).

The xml file itself looks like this:

<!--?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<!--PSEContent xmlns="http://ns.adobe.com/PSEContent/2.0/">
<!--subscription value="free" />
<!--type value="style" />
<!--category value="$$$/content/category/type/AnnaAspnesOptionalDropShadows=Anna Aspnes Optional Drop Shadows" />
<!--/PSEContent>

(you would take out anything in the above sample that is red, those are comments to keep the message board software from "seeing" the xml code!)

I think (and this is purely a guess) that Adobe groups the files together based on the file names, and not anything in the xml file.

After rebuilding the .db3 file, these items show up in my layer styles list as "Anna Aspnes Curled Paper Edges Styles"

Does that help? PM me if not. Good luck - saw your earlier post on reloading actions in PSE8 - reminds me that I need to copy my .xml files over to my "Actions" folder myself.

Thanks Jenn. I have all my 'chicks' moved, and the only one that gave me bother was Katie's drop shadows. The others moved fine ...tho I had duplicates of the installed ones. Go figure.

I can't say I'm sold on PSE8 - yet. I prefer the light background but can't get the text to show up 'black' e.g. when I'm entering sizes for a new page. Nothing shows, tho it creates the right size. The black background is harder to see for these old eyes.

I dont know if this is what you are talking about, but if it is the background, I just right clicked on it and it gave me the option to change to grey or to customize to any color I wanted

Valerie, no ... sadly.

Here is the light background and where you type the parameters the type is black, which of course is NOT visible. I don't see anywhere that you can set a default color just for this option. I'd be glad to hear otherwise.

Huh. I recently installed PSE 8. The background color in the small text colors is a dark gray, BUT the words and numbers are in white. I wish I could tell you how to change that. Maybe Cassie would know?

Glad to have helped on the styles installs :-)

Not sure on the font though - i just went to preferences and changed mine to use the light interface, the text is black, but if the field is highlighted it makes it white. And the field background is a bit darker than the rest of the window, but not black like your picture :-(

Hopefully someone else can chime in with a thought or two?
