Default Idea/Question for printing at Shutterfly

I am working on uploading layouts to Shutterfly to print in a photobook. I am using an idea I saw on the Paislee Press blog. She suggested creating a two page spread with a layout and coordinating large photo.

After playing around a little, I noticed Shutterfly has a one photo page layout for a large square photo with what looks like one inch margins. I uploaded a layout in that and kind of like how it looked with the white space around it. Plus, I don't have to worry about losing any text/design in the margins.

My question: Has anyone made an album of layouts with a white margin around the layout? If so, do you like how it turned out?

Are you selecting the full bleed one photo to a page layout? Mine doesn't get a white space around it.

I did try the full bleed, but I also tried a layout that had one large square photo in the center of the page with a white margin going around all four sides. Something about the extra white space looked nice to me. Just wondering if anyone else had tried it.

Ahh sorry, I read your initial post wrong, I thought you were concerned about the white border. Nope I haven't done it like that.

My only thought with that would be that the white space around the page as you open it up might just be around the outside - like you won't notice the white space in the inside margin because of the binding? Perhaps. Not sure how big the space is.

I recently printed an 11x8.5 book with layouts that had been created in that format and were placed full bleed. But I also had several that were created in 12x12 size that I wanted to include. So I used the square photo box with the white space around it as I did not want to lose any of the layout. This actually resulted in about a 1" white margin at the top and bottom and about a 1.5" margin on the sides - and it looked just fine with the adjoining page done as a full bleed. I only had a few pages like this, not the whole book.
