Default Uploading Sharper Pages

I'm sure this question is in the threads somewhere, but can't find it. My pages never seem to be as sharp or clear as others. Maybe I'm not saving them right. What is the best way to downsize and save a page for uploading and retain crispness? Right now I downsize to 700k and save as JPEG. Any other tips? Thanks.

Chris, I save at 700x700 at 300 dpi and run the unsharp mask on my jpeg before uploading.

Oh gosh...what is an unsharp mask and how do you run it? There is so much I need to learn!

If you are using adobe elements after you have your image re-sized at 700 by 700. At the top choose Enhance then at the bottom of that menu click unsharp mask. When this box opens you can leave the numbers in that they default to or I do Amount: 85 Radius: 1 and Threshold:4. You can play with the amounts and see which ones you like the best. Hope this helps.

Well, it sure does help! I just ran the unsharp mask and can't believe how much sharper the page is. Thanks, everyone...that was an easy fix!

Oh my, big difference! Thanks for the good info. Just wondering, do you run the unsharp mask before uploading to shutterfly for printing also?

I don't. It's really just for web in my opinion.

I have uploaded sharpered and unsharped layouts to Shutterfly. I did not notice a difference in quality.
