Default I need a geek!

new computer. new edition of PSE (8). soooooooooo.....

1.can someone tell me how to install styles in PSE 8? i'm running Windows 7. i tried what i did before when i was using PSE 4 and Windows XP, but it didn't work!

2.is it just me, or in 8 can you now NOT hold down the SHIFT key and drag the corners of something to evenly resize it? when i do that, the proportions get all wonky.

and

3. i was trying to move some text on a page i was making. the move tool was chosen. i was trying to move the text with my up and down and sideways keyboard arrows, but it wouldn't work. is there something different i'm supposed to be doing?

i've got a "Missing Manual" coming from Amazon, but it's not here yet, and these little differences in PSE 8 are annoying me. so, if anyone has the time to help....

I can't help much, I'm only running pse 7 but I noticed in 7 that holding the shift down while trying to resize does throw the proportions off sometimes. I've had better luck just grabbing a corner and dragging without holding anything else down.

I'll try to help. I just got Elements 7 and it does the same things.

1. Styles and actions are installed completely different. I have to google for directions every time.

2. It's just the opposite in this version. don't hold down the shift. Just grab the corner and drag it. Holding the shift makes it distort.

3. I couldn't get the keyboard arrows to nudge either. I learned by accident if you click on the corner of something it will bring up the move arrows and then you can nudge it with the keyboard arrows.

Hope that makes a little sense, lol.

Phyllis,
Here are the instructions for installing layer styles in PSE8 on PC.

In one of the versions, Adobe changed the resizing/Shift key function - I can't remember if it was 5 or 6? Anyway, you can resize without distortion by NOT holding the Shift key - just grab the corner and drag.

Not sure what to tell you about the arrow keys and text. I've only had trouble with them when I've applied a layer style/effect.

Phyllis, I am running PSE7 on Windows 7, so not quite the same as you. But I have no trouble moving text or any other element or layer using the arrow keys to nudge as long as I have the Move tool selected. So, I'm thinking it is a setting somewhere that needs to be changed. Hope someone can answer specifically for you.

thanks, everyone! WHY does Adobe make counterintuitive changes like NOT holding down the Shift key all of a sudden? i think it's an evil plot, myself....
