Default help with ctrl + click command

Hello,
I've heard of using ctrl + click to highlight multiple layers at the same time, but I just can't do it. It only highlights one layer at a time. From past experiences with PS7, I know sometimes I might just be overlooking the simplest thing. I use a PC.
Any advise would be appreciated!
Mahalo!

The Shift key will allow multiple layers.

Tried that just now and that doesn't work either.

Click on the first layer you want then hold the shift key as you select the last layer in the row you want and this will then select all layers in between.

Are you holding down the control key the whole time? That's the only thing I can think of.

Be sure you have the move tool selected first.

Hi Carrie. At work we also have ps7 and there it does not work. Neither shift or ctrl. So I think it is the version of PS.

I click on the first layer to hightlight it, then while holding down the Shift key I click on the last layer. And it changes the highlight to the last layer only.

I try using the ctrl key the same way and it only makes marching ants around the last layer clicked.

So frustrating!

I have PSE 7 and can select multiple layers using the shift key. Are you selecting the thumbnail or the layer itself. I ask because if you have marching ants you might be selecting the thumbnail.

yeah, I have PSE7 and it works for me too. I would try what donna said and make sure the move tool is selected and make sure you are clicking on the empty space to the right of the thumbnail.

No I'm not clicking on the thumbnail. I have the regular version of PS, not elements........so maybe it's just my version.

Ok, this should work in PS and PE. Control+click the THUMBNAIL of the first layer that you want. For the next and succeeding layers, hold Shift AND Control and click on the thumbnail of each layer.

I can't remember how PS CS7 works, but if all else fails, you could try to reset everything back to the defaults. I have to do this once in a while.
Right after starting Photoshop (don't wait for the the splash screen), press and hold Alt+Control+Shift on a windows system. Press and hold Option+Command+Shift on a Mac. A window will pop up asking if you want to delete the current settings.

It does not work in Photoshop 7. You can click the box to the left of layers you want to move together to link them. After you move them, you can click that same link icon in the box to unlink them.

This is for PS7 not PSE7.

And I goofed, it isn't CS7 but PS7. We're all waiting patiently for CS5 to be released.
