Default Need a little Acdsee help?

For those of you that use Acdsee... how can I transfer over my data base to my laptop?

I normally use my desktop to scrap but I find every now and then I like to use my laptop. But, it is such a pain because I don't have Acdsee on there to see my supplies.

I have all of my scrapbooks and photos on an external hard drive so it is easy to plug in either computer.

Anyone have an idea of how to do this. My stash is far to large to redo it!

Thanks in advance!!!!

I can't help you but am curious to see what others say because this is exactly my setup as well. I tried once exporting my database over to the EHD per some directions I found on the web however I ended up with a huge mess. I didn't lose the connected files but rather duplicated everything! It took me 2 whole days to revert back to my original setup and vowed I'd never mess with it again. But I would love to be able to scrap from my laptop as well as my desktop.

If there's a way to do this, I'd love to know about it because I was lost without ACDSee last year at the beach when I scrapped on the laptop.

Holy smokes I actually did it. The stuff I found on the internet sent me in circles and I couldn't figure it out.

I simply made a back up on my EHD... then plugged it in my laptop and ran a restore. BINGO all my tags where there!!!

I am so excited!!!!!

Sorry Jen - I just saw this.
That's what I did - I backed up on an external. I also embedded info in the files themselves just in case.
Glad you were able to work it out!

Sorry, I only just saw your post. Yes, I used a restore to migrate to a new computer.

But doesn't it get all wonky if the mapping isn't exactly the same on each drive Jen? My original database resides on drive D whereas my EHD is mapped to be drive L. So you're saying that you simply backed everything up onto your EHD, plugged it in to your laptop and then hit restore thru Acdsee and it worked? I'm hoping I understand you right because that sounds simple enough that maybe I could do the same for mine.

Jan, you might have to reassign the drive letter in order for this to work for you. I have my external mapped as the F drive on each of my computers.

So glad to read this and know that this software works with an external drive. I have been pulling my hair out with Picassa because it never stays mapped to my external - always wants to look locally.

Waiting patiently for the Mac version...

Sorry I didnt see this thread-that is exactly what I did-just moved the whole thing to the EHD and then onto my new laptop- then every now and then I delete it from my EHD and move the newest version to the EHD-great way to keep everything backed up
