Default ACDSee Beta for Mac question - Patricia

Hi,

As I know you're testing this, you must be the right person to ask... When you tag your supplies, do you use categories, or keywords? And do you write to database, or to IPTC, or anything else?

And would you mind sharing your categories/keywords? I attended the chat yesterday, but had to go halfway through

Thanks!

Hi!! I started using Categories in the Beta and it was so easy to just drag stuff onto the category lists. But when I lost my work with each new iteration of the beta I quit doing it at all. Then I realized I could use keywords to write the keyword into the Metadata for each file. But the keywording is a lot more work that using categories. So the short answer is that I am not coding, tagging or keywording at all now. I use Finder and it is working adequately UNTIL they finish the beta and THEN I will take a week at the beach and CODE like a banshee. My categories are basic and then details are generated on the fly while I am coding. When I get it done I will post my list - but don't hold your breath!! I don't expect the final product until Fall - just to play it safe. They are serious about getting it right because their entire reputation is sitting on this now. They have a premier product for the Windows OS and they want that same level of quality when they release this.
Patience is a virtual. I keep telling myself this little message which my daughter (when she was 4) kept telling ME!

Thanks, Patricia! Great quote, by the way. I'm so eager to try the final version, but I will stay out of the organizing until they finish then.

The only thing I might do is add Preview as a keyword, and add that metadata information to each preview file.

Patricia...remind me, if you tag with keywords in Bridge, will it pull up when you open in ACDSEE?
And another quick question
You know I'm using the beta version for mac. How do I change the view so that while I'm clicking through the different folders on the left panel, I can see a preview of the file below the folder or on the right panel?
I'm probably being clear as mud!

Yes, any keywords in meta data are supposed to be able to be read by the final version. I'll believe it all when it happens.

In View I've got these checked: as Thumbnail; Manage Mode; Properties Panel; Organize Panel. When I click on the folder arrow in the Folders Panel it opens folders beneath it.

In Preferences (for ACDSee) go to Manage and make sure under filter that all the boxes are checked.

I hope this helps and I'm not it addresses your question cause I'm not exactly sure what you are asking!! lol
