Default ACDSee for Mac?

Is it ready? I really need a better organization system since converting to Apple a year ago. I have tried Picassa, but it doesn't work well unless you're working from a local hard drive. In my case, I scrap from my laptop and store everything on my server.

I know this topic has been exhausted already, but of all the systems I've read about, it seems that ACDSee has the best options for tagging and finding stuff.

Anyone?

from what I understand, it's going to be several months before it's going to be ready. Patricia is on the up and up with this stuff, hopefully she will chime in here. I am waiting too, tried Picasa and didn't like it. As of right now i am just using the finder window, which is nice when you know what you are looking for....

I'm waiting eagerly too. I have downloaded the trial, and am using it without tagging because I'm not sure if the database will be convertible when they launch it. They say that it will be able to read metadata in files, so you could try using Bridge to add keywords etc for now, and hopefully ACDSee will read what you have added of tagging when they launch the final version.

Sara's got it right!! The Beta is currently good until May 25th...the latest version. BUT BUT BUT

Be aware that any coding you do in the Beta may not transfer to the newer Beta versions. The ability to read the database as they roll out the various versions is not on their agenda. The betas are supposed to be us testing for them and they are serious about it. We have been working for more than a year on each new iteration they develop. It is tedious but trust me it will be SO worth it.

I have done some experimenting and found that adding keywords through the beta DOES write the keywords into the metadata for the individual files....like Bridge does. So that means they are a permanent part of the file. THe final version WILL be able to search these keywords. The problem I have had is using the categories to sort my files.

I am considering using the keywords now since I have lost two different iterations of coding in the Beta process already.
Hope this helps.

I have little to add to what iUma said, the current beta is quite useful to me even without the (to be included later) processing tools. It's worth checking out if you're looking for an alternative.

Sarahorton: to the best of my knowledge there is no ACDSee Photo Editor for Mac. There was one once, in 2001, but that has nothing at all to do with the current beta of the forthcoming ACDSee Pro for Mac.

I use--pretty much gladly--ACDSee for the PC. I don't bother with the categories; I just use keywords, which works for me, especially since ACDSee did read the keywords from my Bridge setup. HOWEVER, in my opinion, this program is highly unstable. It hangs up OFTEN, sometimes even requiring a reboot. It may be easier with the Mac architecture to create a stable system, but considering how long ACDSee's been unstable in the PC world, I'd be nervous about time-wasting instability in even the after beta version when it's released.
