Default Newborn photo ideas

My husband only had brothers, we only had boys, we have a DGS and . . . drumroll . . . we have a DGD coming this summer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hmmmm . . . am I excited, you betcha! I am going to buy one of those cute knitted long hats, ets. to prepare for the newborn photos. What I really need are photo ideas. I subscribe to a few photo blogs, but where can I get more ideas of positions, backgrounds, props, etc. Because Zoey Clementine is going to be VERY spoiled and I want to learn more skills practicing on my favorite subject.

Any suggestions for me????
Thanks, Sallie

1. Love the name Zoe Clementine. 2. Since she's going to arrive in the summer, nature shots are fabulous for newborns. 3. here's an idea from a photographer named Desiree Rodgers, whose picture I used in a layout for my favorite newborn. This is just some filmy fabric between baby and the lawn. I also love the way the baby is dressed in whites and off-whites for the picture.

Sallie, congratulations on your new granddaughter! What an exciting time it is when there is a new little one to love.

The thread that Lisa just linked to is one that I started back in June when we were expecting our eighth grandchild . . . the answers were wonderful . . . really so much help! I probably didn't do as great a job with my photos as I could have, but I got some really nice shots and I really did appreciate the advice that the DD girls gave me.

ONe suggestion is that you be sure to take photos of the entire settings . . . at least a few of them . . . close ups are totally wonderful . . . I love the shots of the tiny hands and feet. But, I too love to know what else is going on around the new one. I know that when your little one is older, she will enjoy looking at all the things that were in the rooms where she is being loved. Like the things that her mama is using to take care of her . . . the lotions, the wipes, the diapers, the crib sheets, etc. I would love to see photos of all of that ephemera from when I was a tiny child back in the 1940's! Things change . . . evolve . . . the become obsolete and are deemed dangerous or unhealthy. Just my curious mind I guess . . . but I love to attach the child to the times she lives in! Little Zoe will love that you cared enough to shower her with photographs.

Enjoy, hug & have fun!!!

One of my favorite newborn shots is the mom and dad's wedding rings on the tiny new toes. I love looking at Flickr for inspiration there are tons of great new baby ideas there as well

Here are a couple pages from my gallery with some ideas. This baby was 2-weeks old and it is all natural light. I had them positioned in a doorway with a black backdrop behind them. I think sleeping pictures are really cute and they are much easier the younger the baby is. The sleep more and you can "bend" them into cute positions. Congrats and have fun with her!

Here are two shots I would go for. Kristen Cook

Like Mollie mentioned, try to get the entire scene as well. All of those details, smiles, people, faces will mean so much.

One of my favorite photos from my own son being tiny is a shot of him asleep on the floor with my head behind him (also asleep). Hubby had the thought to get down on the floor and snap it. I'll see if I can dig up the digi file around here some where.

one of the things I learned with newborns is to have mom wear a black tank top/camisole to use as your backdrop. Then the baby is very very comfortable and easy for mom to maneuver. You'll get great sleeping shots, with the little one tucked closely in a natural happy place

You can see an example in this post on my blog.

I remember seeing a photo where the baby was sleeping on its tummy, legs curled up under tummy, and with a pink "band" tied around her... Like a little present. Awful explanation, sorry, but the photo was so beautiful! I'll post if I find it.

My favourite items to include in a newborn shoot (I just do it on the side for friends/family and recommendations) is a fun and funky basket. Put a huge comfy pillow inside and some fluffy material on top. My second favourite item is a large piece of fabric in a funky material that my best friend purchased for me (love it!). Just hang it up and use it as a backdrop.

Congratulations Sallie, I'll be on the watch for all your photographs this Summer. We will be having a new little granddaughter too this year, but not a newborn, she's a little over a year now and my daughter and family are awaiting the go-ahead to bring her back from China. They want me to go too - I'm considering it, but not sure yet. It would be a fantastic photo walk.
