Suzanne, I do the same thing. When a photo lab that I like has a great sale, I print 200-300 pictures and put them in my regular old sleeve albums. I buy archival albums at Kohl's or Target and use those. Since I have digital negatives, I don't worry about the pictures lasting forever. And my family can see the photos before I get them on a layout.
I personally use a small local lab in my hometown, severnaparkphoto.com Prints are 19 cents each plus shipping, but every couple of months they have promotions for as low as 8 cents a print. They do amazing work and their prints are very professional, on heavy Fuji paper. I signed up for the email list and that's how they send out coupon codes. But other people probably use the more mainstream labs. I have not been pleased with Shutterfly for print quality, to be honest. If you are willing to pay more for quality, Creative Memories has hands-down the best quality photo printing I've ever seen. Better than Kodak and competitive with, if not better than, WHCC and mpix. But they're expensive. I don't know if you can still order a pre-paid plan or not. I'm sure there will be lots of other good ideas!
