Default I sent my new laptop back

I have had a Dell Inspiron for five years. I really like it and it has been very reliable. Dell has been good about repairing it when needed. So I ordered and received a beautiful new machine with everything I wanted on it--except the Windows 7 that it was supposed to have. After hours and hours of being shipped around from one Dell person to another, the only option they offered me was to return the computer. So I did. And I'm peeved. I still plan to get a new laptop but not from Dell.

I've been researching and it appears the Toshiba Satellite is highly rated. Do any of you have one of these machines? Have you been happy with it? I really hope that, once my new baby arrives home, I won't have to send it back again!

Thank you!

Oh, bummer, Lynn. I know how much I look forward to new stuff...what a disappointment. I have a Lenovo Thinkpad laptop and absolutely love it. When I bought it, Consumer Reports rated the brand as the most reliable. I've used it for over a year without a problem. Hope this doesn't muddy the waters.

I don't have a Toshiba, Lynn, but I've heard good things about them. I don't know anything about their customer service. I've never had good customer service with Dell, but I've been hearing over the past 10 years that they've improved since I used them last. I'm sorry they sent it without the software! Bummer. I hope you get your new system soon!

I have the Toshiba Satellite and I love it, I called the helpline when I first received it and they were wonderful-as a matter of fact, I just ordered the new 18.3 inch and will be receiving it Monday!

I've had a Toshiba and so did the husband. We both loved them until we went to MAC.

We used Toshiba Satellite laptops for a nationwide study... They did really well.
Everyone is really excited about Windows 7.

I loath Dell!!! My desktop is a Dell and while we haven't had issues with the system their customer service is HORRID!

My dad and stepmom each have a Toshiba and they love them. I have an HP Laptop and I haven't ever had an issue with it.

I currently am using a Toshiba Satellite. I crashed a hard drive back in December. They took care of the costs for shipping and I had it back within two weeks. I don't have any complaints with it. It's my buddy and goes with me everywhere.

Oh, Lynn, so sorry about your bad experience with Dell! I don't have a laptop, but will follow this thread to see what you choose and how you like it. I need to save my pennies to buy one! Good luck in your search and purchase!

Thank you so much for all your quick replies! I liked the sound of the Toshiba from reading Consumer Reports and wanted some real life info from people I trust! I hope to get my new machine ordered within the next few days.

I'm so sorry to hear about bad service anywhere. You would think ...
Since I play on the other team, I can't offer any advice, but just noting that Dick's OLD IBM Thinkpad is still chugging along as a Netflix connector to the tv. I believe it's 5? 7? years old and still works just fine.

Thumbs up Laptop

My first laptop was a Toshiba and I loved it. Then I bought my first Dell, a
17" made for photos and games etc. I've had it for around 6 years and still love it. I also have an Inspiron 1501 for 5 years and it is great! We just got hubby an Inspiron for Christmas and he is thrilled with it. Also, my sons and daughter have 1 or 2 each of Dell laptops and also love them. My son, a computer wiz has 2, he brought a MAC and sent it back, hated it. This same son does Beta testing for HP and Microsoft and knows what he is doing with a computer. He likes Dell the best.

As far as Customer Service none of us have ever had a problem with Dell. GREAT service all the time.

My first laptop was also a Toshiba Sat. When I got my Mac we gave it to our son who also had a Mac but wanted a PC (before the days of Parallel). He still uses that laptop for BSA activities and it has been 10 years!

Oh Lynnie, the stories I could tell you about Dell! Here's one: I ordered a new computer for my business. It arrived. the next day two more arrived. I called Dell and told them to pick them up. They said they wouldn't as I must have ordered them and had to pay for them. (This mistake they told me was not possible for any Dell employee to make.) This was in August. After untold hours--probably a week's worth--on the phone with people all over the world, I finally got it straightened out on the day before Thanksgiving! No more Dell for me. It's just not worth the hassle.
