Default Mac users - new monitor

Wow, my man has told me to get a new, bigger external monitor for my macbook pro and leave him the old one (he's paying too; isn't he the best? I don't know how he dares - he's seeing little to me as it is...). I have been wanting the Apple 24" since I got my mac. So I suppose somebody here has it? Is it as gorgeous as it seems? Or are there other alternatives you'd recommend?

Wait on the monitor. At LEAST until after tomorrow. There's an Apple "event" planned when they unveil new product. Also, Mac Rumors says this:

Product LCDs
Recommendation: Don't Buy - Updates soon *
Notes * Despite the release of the 24" LED Cinema Display, unless you are buying that specific monitor, we'd recommend waiting if you are in the market for a different size.

Sounds like they have no problem with the 24", but I'm sure updates are coming. I have the older 23" Cinema Display. It's a beautiful monitor, but it's had this slight, yet annoying, "flicker" since day one. The Apple store manager and I have tried 4 different ones. It's clearly a design issue (just with this particular monitor . . . that happens to be $800). So, I'm waiting for a new and improved version that I'll try to swap out again.

Wow, good to know... Thanks, Cassie! Can't wait to see what they are coming up with for us.

I splurged on a macpro last fall but went with another monitor and I'm very happy with it. Hanns-G 28" from Costco.com.... $300. It's hdmi and 1080p. I had a smaller version for a couple years on my pc and have absolutely no problem with either. To me, it is worth the savings but then, I'm not a designer.

Anexla, I believe you are in Norway so I too would suggest looking at other large ones. I don't know how much is available there or how prices compare. (If I recall Apple products are much more expensive in the UK i.e. close to the same number whether you are buying in dollars or pounds which comes out to 1.5x higher) Can you buy on line?

I hope Apple has something more interesting to say tomorrow other than possibly a tablet.

Lynn, can you tilt it? That's the main problem with the one I have now, no adjustments, and I like it when they are a little tilted. (Is that the English word?)

Oh, yeah, tilt it, turn it 90 degrees on its side, go up and down-- and that makes access to all the plugs and USB outlets easy to get to. There are four USB ports on the back and two on the side for easy access, too. It is a sweet little baby.

I checked out the HP - it looks awesome! 6 usb is fenomenal! I can keep my macbook almost without cables... will have to think a little. I looked at a Dell too, which also seems great, and they will replace immediately if you see as much as one dead pixel... That's ok...
