Question Do you know this blog?

I discovered this blog today and it's lovely
Ilka's Attic -- Mixed-Media Artist Susan Tuttle

She's offering a photo manipulation class that looks so interesting.
Description
If anyone knows of her or her classes, could you please comment? I need some inspiration and this looks like it might be just what I need for the slow winter months...

Cool site, Kerry. I'll be back to look at it after patients.

gorgeous stuff! I bookmarked it. It looks like it would be really fun and inspiring exposure to different ideas and techniques.

Another alternative for those who want to do cool things to their photos are the Totally Rad Actions and the video tutorials that Doug Boutwell has to go with them. HOWEVER, for you, Kerry, I don't think it's the creative immersion you're looking for -- but for people who just want to get it done (raising hand guiltily) they are awesome.

Debbie, I love TRA but haven't shelled out the $$ for them!
I'd love to know how to do that stuff on my own. I know a few things, but would like to expand my knowledge (creative immersion...I love that idea!)

Yep, it's pricey, Anke.
That's why I'd like to know if anyone has any experience with her. On the other hand, if I could learn to do the stuff I want to my photos and not buy things like Totally Rad Actions, then it would save me $$$! And I'd like that

Kerry I completely agree with you - if I could learn to do that kind of photo manipulation I would love it. I really like her photography stuff but I don't care for the art journal style (not her work but in general) so I would like to be sure that the class focused on photography and not the other stuff.

Debbie I love your new term "creative immersion"!

Thanks for sharing the link.

Kerry, I vote you go for it. My "opinion" is that 12 photoshop lessons and the community and feedback are worth $98. And I think you're drawn to her work. It's lovely to study with someone who inspires you.

If you think you get a lot of use out of doing it I would agree, go for it! It sure looks like a lot of fun stuff to learn

I looked at her book (S) on Amazon and realized I had bought the existing one and returned it as too far out. But the new one looks closer to me so I pre-ordered it. Turns out she is from Maine. I also dug pretty deep into her blog and her Flickr photos. I am not so sure she is as experienced as she might seem.......although she does have a beautiful vision. Kerry have you looked at the Nik Color Efix Pro Filters? I got them for Christmas...a real present from my real husband...and they can do a lot of what she is showing in her images. At least with regard to manipulating images...not so much with the art journal /collage work.

I have those, Patricia, and I love them! I've been using those for about 5 years.
I just have a yearning to know how to do that stuff on my own. But maybe it's not worth the $$?
I think it's the January blahs getting a hold of me.
Still contemplating the class...

I think you'd have fun with that class, Kerry. I love the dream like qualities and it certainly fits some of the stuff you've done. Bookmarked her site, too, just to look when life needs fuzzy edges.

I agree with Debbie that this package for $98 sounds quite reasonable. Plus you're inspired by her work (me, too). As for Totally Rad Actions, which I use, there are some of them which I can't live without ("Oh Snap," and "Pro Retouch" are two that come to mind), but unless you actually watch each stage of the action and see what it's doing, you don't learn very much from it. Much better to have the knowledge, I think. You know like give a gal a fish you provide her with a meal, teach her how to fish . . .

Thanks for that link! I'm looking into that class, it looks interesting... Would love to learn some photo editing techniques. As for her books, I think I'm going to pre-order her second.

I shouldn't have put sooooo much thought in this, but after looking around and doing lots of reading this week, I've decided not to take her class.
I prob. should just continue to find my own style and voice by experimenting; I looked at the flickr group of people who have taken the class and wasn't overly influenced in the positive direction; and I've been playing in PS a lot I think I can find my own way.

Thanks for all of your thoughts on this! You gals helped a lot
