Default Are you a geek?

For purposes of this inquiry, I'm defining a geek as a digital scrapbooker who is as enamoured of learning Photoshop as in scrapbooking. Some people feel that to really enjoy scrapbooking digitally, you've got to have some geek in you. What do you think?

Well I don't know about the part that you have to have some geek in you to enjoy scrapbooking digitally but I think that if you do have some geek in you, you would tend more to digital than paper :-) I don't think I'm a geek.. actually I don't really like most technology except when it helps me accomplish what I want which in this case is getting the stories told and the pictures saved.. but I'm not one of those who needs to have something higher tech just because I like the technology.. if it helps me do something better I would get it otherwise I would stick with what I have.. Well...I am a nerd at least!
I would have to agree with Donna that my geekiness mainly extends to things involved in getting the stories told. In those areas, I am very much a geek.
I must admit though....it has been a lot of fun to get into Photoshop. DH used to always say, "I should teach you Photoshop." Now I am teaching him!

I don't know if I have graduated to the level of geek. I only learn enough to be dangerous. Which usually means enough to lock up or cause a computer to crash.

I am a geek! One of my goals this year is to learn a ton about photoshop for photography and scrapbooking purposes! I think that makes me a total geek! I will wear that badge proudly!

I'm a geek/nerd from way back. In more ways than just PS!
I can identify almost every passenger airplane ( I'm really excited about the new 787), most cars from the 40's on, I adore figuring out how anything and everything works. My family ribs me about these things all the time!
My kids have always called me nerdy
Geeks rule!

Right now I'm taking one of several breaks I've had from a Photoshop weekend marathon that started yesterday evening. My eyes are pretty much glazed over so I guess I'm part geek.

Now if you talk about iPhone and all its apps, I have no idea about these, probably because I can't hear over the phone. I'm thinking of learning to text messages though, so that might end my avoidance of mobile phones.

I think in this era of technology of everyday things, almost everyone is somewhat geekish - except for my dh!

I do not consider myself a geek. I learn what I need to know to do the things I want to do and I leave it at that. And I am certainly not into getting the newest coolest toys. I don't even have a cell phone and I'm using Photoshop CS - the very first version. I'm only upgrade when I can't do what I want to do anymore. And I am so into the designers doing all the geeky hard work for me.

I do not think you have to be a geek to digitally scrapbook. I learned what I want to do and that's all. A few classes/lessons and you can digitally scrapbook. Although, you do need to at least be comfortable with a computer. It's a similar start-up to paper scrapping, I think.

That said DH did call me from work today to ask me how to do something on Photoshop.

I would love to have more time so I could become a total geek. I would really love to know everything there is to know, sort of like Cassie I am just not willing to sacrifice scrapping time to sit down and learn

I'm a geek-want-to-be. I have learned a lot about photoshop for the purposes of scrapping. But I would love to know more about PSE, my DSLR, my computer, EHD, Scanner, etc. but still only in the context of helping me do scrapbooking.

I used to be a real-life Geek and am now retired from a career originally as a mainframe computer programmer and later as manager of a PC network design and support group. I do tend to spend more time trying to figure out how the programs and features work instead of actually making layouts, but it is so nice to finally find a use for computers that is so much fun instead of work. Technology has always been intriguing to me.

LOL!

I mainly use it as a tool to get my stories told. As Anke said, I find it hard to sacrifice scrapping time for learning time (although it is totally worth it in the end!) and as Denise said, I am also quite happy to let the Designers work make my layouts shine!

Yeah, geek is something I hear fairly regularly. I've been an application developer for almost 15 years now, but I heard the comment well before them. I just love technology and what it can do, although oddly enough I'm not fond of cell phones or texting...

I'm such a geek. In every single way. As a computer engineer, I suppose the computer "geekiness" has been present for some years. But I'm learning every day. To me, that's part of that word's meaning. If you're a geek, you want to learn new things all the time. Or am I wrong? Ditto ccblue; I love technology!

Had to clarify the definition of geek before answering and i used a paper dictionary so I'm definitely not a geek- at least not yet. I can't text and i much prefer a book than read online. However since trying to learn a little about photoshop, i now want to learn more about photography which then leads on to learning Lightroom. Illustrator too looks interesting. Maybe Geek is a virus that can be caught at any time of life.

I think I qualify since the only materialist things I wish for these days either require a usb port, have a hard drive, long to reside on my hardrive or are on my ever growing wishlist at B&H photo....lol!! Now if only I could master them all!!

I am with you Kathie! My brothers have been calling me a nerd since I was a kid. Always had my nose in a book. Now, I have my nose in a book, eye in my camera, or behind in front of my computer

I think I qualify
