Default External Hard Drives

I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for a 1TB external hard drive?

I had a small scare this morning with my first "blue screen of death" on this laptop and would really like to get everything backed up ASAP. I think I would have a nervous breakdown if I lost all the pictures of my son's first year.

Thank you for any help!!

I just crashed my Western Digital 1 TB. The repair guy said he has a big pile of them that have crashed. I replaced it with a portable Western Digital Passport that he recommended. It is only a half of the memory, but that is still a huge amount of memory and it is so tiny and doesn't have to be plugged in.

I have a 1 TB Fantom Drive. So far it has served me well. I also have 2 500 Toshiba passports that I keep connected. I keep supplies on one and photos on the other. Then I back everything up to the FD and Mozy. Call me paranoid

I have a 1TB Western Digital that I got for under $100 on Amazon. I would make sure and search for deals this time of year. I know that a lot of folks have had a time with Western, but I have had a WD smaller EH and had no problems. The WD 1TB I bought had over 700 reviews on it between Best Buy and Amazon. HTH! I know Cassie recommends some high end ones, but I think the lowest price was $300.

Just fyi, I don't rely on just one back up. I back up everything to 2 EH and Carbonite.

Mine, like Anke's, is a Fantom; it was a great price at Buy.com. I also have a 500 gb LaCie that has served me well. We've had trouble with Western Digitals!

I have a 500gb Toshiba- have had no problems with it and will be purchasing another one this week as a backup. The Toshiba does not need a power cable either- runs off the laptop power and is super easy.
