Default If your taking the Design Your Life class...

Have you started your prework stuff?

I started working on it last night. Need to get a photo of me to add to the layout and then it will be done.

Suzanne,

I'm hoping to sign up tomorrow, but I wanted to thank you for answering my questions in the other post on this class. I really appreciate you taking the time to do so, and your information was very helpful!

Hopefully I'll "see" you in class, too! ;-)

I have really mixed feelings about this. I LOVE Cathy Z and I really like her style, too, but it's not for me, so I'm worried that the class is going to be so much based on her style. I'm really torn about this--any ideas what I should do?

I'm hoping to take the class, but I haven't signed up yet. Now that I know there is pre-work to do I had better sign up soon!

Last year there were examples in the gallery with a lot more embellishment than Cathy uses, they'd made the CZ templates the basis for their design but hasd moved on from the 'simple' approach.
I think you'd still benefit from the class, unless this is a decision between spending the money on another one in your style or this one.

Suzanne,

How long did it take before you received the e-mail with the pre-class material? I just signed up and am already anxious to begin! ;-)

Never mind, Suzanne. I found the material on the site.

Maureen, to get the preclass material: Log in, go to My Account on BPS, then to My Classes. You will see a line that says you are signed up for Cathy's class. Hit the "Enter Classroom" button, and it will lead you to all of the downloads plus a pre-class video. HTH!

Tracy your welcome and I'm glad I could help. Oh good glad you found the prework info.

I don't think I'm going to worry about the 12x12 binder. Cathy said it was up to each person whether they wanted to buy one or not. I'm going to try and use my 2009 photos to do all the classwork and then hopefully by the end of the class I'll have them all ready to go into a photobook. I hope!

I did find a binder laying around the house that I'm going to keep all the class info in though so that I'll have it all to look at.

Maureen log in to BPS, go to the classroom and you will find the info about the prework stuff. There are some pdfs, a template & some other printouts to go into the 12x12 binder.

HTH!

The class is definitely going to be based on her style but my understanding is that it is all about learning the design aspects. You can always add any embellishments that you want to your pages. I like the clean lines personally but I know that is not for everyone.

Aha...just checked both charge accounts and as I have no charge, I guess I never registered. I'm vacillating now, and wonder how much prework there is? I get on an airplane tomorrow p.m. or depending on which way I look at it.

I DO have a 12x12 book btw but usually don't print as I'm going along with a class. I like to do it in one fell swoop.

Maureen, I'm looking at it this way -- no one is going to check whether you do the pre-work or not. No one is going to demand to see your binder. I'm going to do what work I can and just try to absorb as much detail as I can about design. As for the pre-work, it is mainly to get the binder ready to go. There is a 12x12 LO (from a template) in which you introduce yourself, and there is a journaling block to write down your expectations for the class. Personally, I'm not sure I'll do the latter as I am trying to get several projects wrapped up before the start of class (before the coupons expire) and writing takes me a while to complete. I will try to do the LO, but again ... who's going to check??? Cathy does state several times that "life sometimes gets in the way" of completing assignments, so we need to relax and do what we can. I plan to take that to heart since I have a lengthy adoption report due to Ethiopia on our ds and taxes to prepare before the end of class. ;-)

Hope that eases your mind a bit. Have a great trip, and hope to see you in class.

the prework is just 12x12 page which she provides a template for us digital people. and then to printout the few handouts if you want to print them.

But Cathy will find me on FaceBook and say bad words to me if I don't do all my pre-work!! (Just Joking MsZ!!)

Thanks for all the reassurances. I'll be whipping my credit # out after dinner and possibly even have a go. Writing and talking have never been too hard for me...as Dick can verify. See y'all in the classroom.

Hey,

I am signed up as an alum. for DYL. I did not finish the class when I was enrolled.

I feel the class teaches more about design, balance and you can do your own thing with the layouts..., whatever you want them to be. The sizes for the pictures are posted so you can go ahead and have those chosen. There is a lot of freedom; each layout can be different, no continuous theme.

See you all there.
