Julianne Kost has some great videos on the Adobe site too! This is a very cool tool these people have made for us!

I realize this is an older thread. BUT ... I don't see WHY this has to be an either/or type of thing.

PhotoShop is an EDITOR. Lightroom is a DATABASE (true, it has editing abilities but it's mainly a database).

SO ... you can have both!! Now, if you're not much into truly editing photos (or digi-scrapping {gasp}), then you don't need both, and LR is all you need. But, I'm not that good a photographer yet! I DO see how I don't need to go into PS for all my photo edits, but ... I'd never give up the option to go there if I needed to!

I haven't checked out Lightroom 3 yet, but the editing process in LR 2 is the exact same one as in Adobe Camera Raw, which is what you use in Photoshop. So if you're switching to LR because of all those sliders . . you've got them in PS and, I believe, in PSE, too.

The reason I don't use LR, even though I did buy it, is because I have to ration myself on learning new programs, and although maybe I could do all my photo processing in LR, I need Photoshop anyway for all my digital scrapbooking. Therefore, I'm sticking with PS. HOWEVER, LR is a sexy, beautiful program, that's for sure.

I just bought it recently and am still in the learning process.

One negative I DO have to say is that it does NOT work with .pngs, so it's not good for organizing scrapping items.

I absolutely love Lightroom. It's designed for photography- not design, not advertising, etc. It's a complete workflow solution- from organizing to sharing.

I love the editing abilities and the way you can so easily switch back and forth. The organization is amazing.

And I love those camera calibration presets which have saved me lots of time in editing my raw files because most of the time, I'm pretty happy with just that- which I apply on import.

That said, when you first look at LR you notice what makes it so amazing but befuddling at first- It's completely different.

My recommendation- subscribe for one month of training from Kelbytraining.com and take the LR Classes (You'll also be able to watch Photoshop, PSE, and Photography classes as you get unlimited access to an amazing array of classes).

Once you see how it works, it all makes sense.

Great answers here.

I think LR is at a whole different level than PS - but they complement eachother beautifully.

I will play around in LR with presets and then move it over to PS, if I am really in the playing mood - and continue to play there with USM, actions etc.

Let me just throw in Topaz Labs to the mix!! I found out about Topaz from Rick Sammon articles. They are very inexpensive and do amazing, fun, crazy post editing. I am lucky my DH has so many hobbies that I have PS, LR, and Topaz bundle just because he can't complain because I will never in this life time catch up to his hobbies

So many pictures, so many options, and so little time.
