Default How To Incorporate Souvenirs?

I've been reading the replies to arimacias's thoughts on going digital thread, and as someone who paper scrapped for years and has now been doing digital scrapbooking for not quite two months, I totally agree with everything that's been said in that thread. The one thing I do miss, however, is being able to incorporate memorabilia and souvenirs into my layouts--things like restaurant menus, museum tickets, etc. Does anyone else collect this type of stuff, and if you do, do you try to make it part of your layouts? For my first-ever digi page, I scanned in a ticket (you can see that layout here, if you'd like), but what are some other options? Making a separate paper page to incorporate into your book? Do you keep a separate scrapbook of just your paper memorabilia? If you have any examples in the gallery, I'd love to see it, so maybe you could provide a link? Thanks!

I scan them or I do a hybrid which is mostly digital with pockets for the souviners.

This LO has a ferry ticket on it...

This LO has the Met button you get when you enter the museum...

I don't have any tips, but love how you scanned in the ticket stub for that layout. It looks fabulous.

Scan them, make brusshes from them, add pockets to your albums to create a safe place for the originals, or add those pockets to you digital layouts for a hybrid approach...Just a few ideas...

I agree -- i've used scanning and/or taking picture of items...this was my first attempt. I included some of my daughter's favorite toys (shrunk down of course ...teehee)

Hi! Great question. I have a tactile attachment to some of these kinds of things, so scanning isn't always the answer for me. In my current books I have scanned some things, and others (like a feather dropped by Big Bird at Sesame Place), I leave a space for it and paste it in later after it's printed.

I used to do a lot of theater and am working on a scrapbook from that time in my life. I'm keeping it mostly paper becaues of all the memorabilia associated with it. I will through in some digi pages too! I love the flexibility.

Love the idea of adding a clear envelope to a printed page.

I scan or take pictures of just about everything.
I save everything (to DH's dismay) while traveling and use it digitally in my LO's.
Brochures, menus, tickets, receipts, postcards - you name it and I scan it and use it!

Thess I like how you scanned the things for some of your pages in your gallery. What do you do with the things after you have scanned them for your pages?

Squeak,
I've always tended to just stuff the tickets, foreign money, etc. in a clear page protector, but knew I couldn't do that with if I did a bound book, so I scanned them. I put this page on the rear cover of the book.

I've since tossed the tickets but kept the coins, I've got a foreign money piggy bank.

I've thought about just using a clear cd pocket or similar in the back of a bound book (if the items aren't too bulky). I generally go with printed pages and regular albums.

For the ski trip book I printed, I scanned in lift tickets and my daughters ski school daily reports - used them on pages as elements.

I love the idea of leaving space for a clear pocket.

CCBLUE - love your page you added here - great idea with the tickets held in place with the photo wrap - never would have though to scan the money :-)

I would love it if you could order printed books with plastic pockets. That would be perfect!!

I don't suppose anyone knows of any memory pockets that have an adhesive strip that you could attach inside the back cover of a 10x10 or 12x12 album?

I use memorabilia pockets from Creative Memories for this. Even on the Shutterfly books you can use 1 or 2 because they lie flat. What I usually do is add one to the inside of the back cover and put any tickets, etc in it. You can't put but a few small things but it does work. Here's the link if anyone needs it

Memorabilia Pockets

Hope it's OK that I posted that link... let me know if it isn't and I'll remove it

From my Ireland book last summer:
I scanned lots of memorabilia, did some photo extractions, and used it all on these collage pages.

You guys are all so great! These are some awesome ideas. Thanks so much for sharing and showing. How nice to see what you've all done, and how nice to know that there are several options. I bet I end up doing most everything here, depending on the specific project and what kind of final book I want.

Merry Christmas!

If it is a real item that I want to keep, I like to scan it and put the digital version on a layout but am careful to keep it exactly the same size as the real life item. Once the layout is complete and ready to be printed, I reduce the size of the digital version just a tiny bit, and print. Then I take the real life item and glue it on top of the digital version. (By making the digital version a bit smaller before printing, you lower the chances of it showing when the real item is attached.)

If a printed element ends up "on top of" the digital version of a real item, I have used a sharp craft knife to cut around the printed element so the real item can slide underneath it when it is glued into place.

I have mostly done this with pages that will be put into page protectors, but it could be done in a bound book as well, if it will be gently handled.

I save stuff in file-folders, one per year.
And one day - I might start throwing the oldest away... Or not!
