I'd been hearing that this was going to come out with the same version for PCs and Macs but had my doubts. Any takers yet???

Amazon says it's being released in a month. Which totally makes sense, because just a month or so ago I finally caved and bought PSE 6 for Mac after using PSE 4 for a couple years. Will I upgrade? Ack, I hate to repeat the purchase so soon, but it looks pretty great. We shall see!

I found it interesting that Adobe finally released a version for both platforms at the same time. I too just got PSE6 last year.

I *just* bought PSE7 for my new PC -- Cassie, don't be alarmed, I still have my Mac, but my old PC died a couple of months ago -- so I don't think I'm going to get PSE8 anytime soon.

I use PSE 7 on a PC with ACDSee Pro as my Organizer so, No, I won't be upgrading right now. I usually skip a version until I'm sure that I need the upgrade.

Grandma Lynnie is right....I didn't like the dark interface on PSE 7. If I remember correctly ( I'm at work...working hard of course!! so I don't have PSE up) you go to Edit..Preferences..and there is a slider bar that will lighten things up! I changed mine the minute I got it!!
Hope this helps.

I haven't read a lot about this, but it sounds like the major improvements are in tagging files. In fact, the article linked to says that if you have 7, you might want to pass on 8 (that's my interpretation, anyway).

Some really basic questions, but here goes. I have PSE 5. Can I upgrade directly to PSE 8 without any problems? And to be really dumb - is an upgrade cheaper than just buying a new program? And where exactly does one go for an upgrade - Adobe? Amazon? Best Buy?

You can absolutely upgrade from 5 to 8. You will pay the normal retail price. It's only cheaper (sometimes) for people upgrading from the previous version of the software. You should look into some of the academic software sites. Usually you just need to have a child in school to qualify for the discount (or be an employee of an academic institution). I use academicsuperstore.com, but there are others out there. Amazon, Best Buy, Sam's Club, etc., will also have it available.
